Humming BL8000’s connected to iMac

Hi folks,

As corona obliges me to work from home for the coming weeks, I decided to hook up my BL8000’s to my iMac so that I can enjoy some music while working.

I connected the BL’s via line-in to the headphone socket on the iMac. This works fine for playing music. However, when the iMac goes to sleep, the BL’s start humming like crazy.

Any suggestions how to solve this?

Disable sleep on the iMac.

Another option is to use an external USB sound card (like this one: https://soundsheavenly.com/music-input/17-beomaster-5-beosound-5-aux-usb-input-converter-also-works-as-pcmac-sound-card.html ) to connect the speakers, instead of the headphone socket on the Mac, this will avoid the noise when the Mac goes to sleep.

In the meantime I changed my setup, and connected the BL’s to a Chromecast Audio which I still had lying around. Play to the CC via Roon. Works great and no more hum. Happy me!

also does the trick. I have a bunch of these as a "swiss army knife" solution for lots of problems like this. I originally bought one to use on airplanes with a VERY sensitive pair of in-ear earbuds that I owned about 20 years ago. I then got a second to put between my AirPort Express and a pair of BeoLab 3's back when the AirPort first hit the market...
