Hello,

I am considering to buy an Oppo BDP-103EU as it has pre-amp out for surround. Also, it appears that the pre-amp outputs are volume regulated, even by the remote control.

My thoughts are to have this player double as my surround decoder for Blu Ray and Apple TV (has HDMI input) and connect it to a non-B&O flat screen tv. Speakers used would be BeoLab speakers (just need to find a trigegr signal to allow them to turn on/off automatically).

Question, does anyone have experience with the volume control? I.e. can it reduce the volume all the way down to silence or is it only for tweakign the output line level for a connected AV receiver?

Thanks!

Yeah no problem in doing that.  The oppo doubles up as a surround processor too. You can totally connect the player to Beolab speakers without triggers I think. The beolab speakers that I have used and know of turn on and off automatically depending on the presence or non-presence of the input signal. Just make sure you switch to line input. But I really suggest going for the flagship Oppo BDP105 model. The thing about active speakers is that almost all of them are quite revealing disregarding their individual performances. So poor active speakers will be better served by better input signal as do good active speakers. Get the 105 and settle the anxiety of whether you could have done more for the Beolabs. It's just a few hundred quids more plus you will get the pride of owning a piece of equipment that is garnering so much respect from the audiophile community.

Thanks, that is good to know!

Regarding speakers and quality; do you mean that BeoLab speakers generally reveal imperfection in sound reproduction very well so that it makes sense to buy the best of the players?

Where is best to buy Oppo products? And what should I expect as best price for the 103 and 105 derivatives please?
PS: I am UK based.

Active speakers usually do reveal the sound signature of the source easily.

I think you can get it online go here so you can get the region free version.
