Hi Guys I've been holding out for a Beogram for a Long time now. I am a giant fan of Arne Jacobsen. i'm prepared to spend a bit of cash for a good model that's in MINT condition and wanted some opinions on this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BANG-OLUFSEN-VINTAGE-TANGENCIAL-TURNTABLE-MODEL-BEOGRAM-9500-MMC2-/181048990865?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Turntables&hash=item2a275c5c91

What do you all think? Is the model correct? is the price right for the condition? Etc?

I can't help but think that's a bit expensive...

Someone has butchered the DIN plug. Not mint - too expensive.

Welcome to Beoworld !

Seeing as you are a huge fan of Arne Jacobsen, I'm sure you already know that he never did any designs for Bang & Olufsen.
The Beogram 9500 was designed by Jacob Jensen.
Just to set it straight. Laughing

The price ? Well, someone seems willing to pay it but I'm really not the one to advice.

Good Beograms in mint condition are expensive...

I wonder, why this one wasn`t used all the years, and if so, is it mechanically (motor, belt, cartridge...) in well working condition?

To what system do you want to connect it? BG9500 was made for BC9500 - as the number tells us...:)

It can be controlled by remote (BL1000, BL5000,BL7000, Beo4) via Datalink from your Beomaster and connected linkrooms.

Even Timerplay is possibe - depends on your system.

Beware BG9500 got NO built in RIAA preamp.

If everything is as described price around 500 - 700 GBP should be ok.

BTW: I`m also a fan of Arne Jacobsen. He made a lot of furniture like the Oxford chair, Serie 7 chair, LouisPoulsen lamps, a lot of things for Stelton...

but the designer of B&Os Beogram is Jacob Jensen.

Hope this helps

Didn`t notice that, sorry - so no "mint" condition...

Jacob Jensen! Ooops, boy is my face red !

So too expensive is the consensus. That's what I thought. What other forums, auction sites, or online shops are good for old Beograms?

Sorry Peter, I beg to differ!

Mint examples of this deck are as rare as rocking horse droppings and would likely make in excess of £1000.

The lid alone is worth well past £500 (it will also fit the Beogram 4500) as is the unused MMC2. They are not making any more!

The DIN plug could be replaced at minimal cost but most non B&O users will require the Phono connections (I hope there is a ground connection or it will surely hum).

I think it is "worth" the best part of £1000 as it stands. If it sells for less then the buyer has got a bargain.

Graham is right, check prices for new MMC2's. It has the original packing and it looks mint. Buy a 7p DIN for a few cents and you have bargain!

Those good buddies at Lifestyle AV have just sold a much less desireable, marked,  Beogram 8500 for £350 without a cartridge!

Add £450 for a brand new MMC2 and you can see why the near mint Beogram 9500 with MMC2 might be "worth" near £1000.

Used B&O prices are at their lowest at the moment so it will be interesting to see what it ends at.

Of course, I would not pay £500+ for a turntable, if I could not collect it and verify the description as accurate, before I parted with my £'s

I still think it's quite expensive...

I got about 220£ for a BG3500 with a MMC4, both in good condition, about two years ago, and it took quite some time to sell it!

I would never pay 450£ for a 20 year old pickup - even if brand new! It's still 20 years old, and brand new doesn't mean, that the rubber suspension hasn't dried out! You would be way better of with a refurbished pickup for under half of the 450£...

I think an almost mint BG9500 would be worth 250-350£ without pickup here in Denmark.

Yes, prices can be thought as crazy by some (like me who isn't a turntable guy).

I've seen BG9500 for sale for about 800 euro over here, but no takers I'm afraid.

Finnish buyers mostly do not appreciate correctness & mintiness a bit (and this isn't limited to B&O). On a lucky day, any half original, run over by a truck specimen might get the same amount than a flawless example. Partly caused by being a small market, I guess.

That particular Beogram (with butchered cabling and an MMC4) has been listed for the better part of this year, and I will be suprised if it ever gets a single bid unless the starting price is dropped to 250something...and forget about an actual sale transaction if there'll be a reserve at over 400.

I personally don't understand how being unused would be any kind of a merit for an MMC. That unused stylus will remain unused forever when the suspension fails.

As far as I remember, I paid 350€ locally for my Beogram 9500, with no blemishes I can find, unbutchered original cabling, and a good sounding straight MMC2 - and that price included a Beocenter 9500 and a clean latest model Beolink 1000. Probably would've sold for the same money even if the BC glass had been chipped, panels & lids scratched and the remote used for dog training.

Do I think these small, plastic Beograms are worth half a grand? In absolute terms, certainly not. But if you need to have one for a collection, you will need to either pay a lot, be able to fix problems yourself, or wait for a long time for a lucky bargain...

I have noticed that Beogram prices on eBay have been rocketing - but these all seem to be from dealers - I would be more tempted by a dealer example as it should come with a warranty. However I don't think the late tangentials are that good and are certainly not as pretty as the 4000. I gave away my 9500 and have no regrets. Makes you wonder what my BG3000 Thorens with 12" arm is worth though!!

The 4000 is definitely the best looking one. Yes - thumbs up

I'd love a 4000 - much better looking than any other turntable in my opinion.

I'm looking to buy one from my first 'big' jobs pay check...  I imagine 4000's as hard to find as gold dust. I'd get one in a heartbeat but I cannot find a decent one for sale! If anybody knows of one for sale somewhere then let me know!   =)

Thanks for the heads up about this one being listed for over a year on ebay too. Not buying.

Cheers/Rob

We were talking about a Beogram on a Finnish auction site, not the the listing in OP's link. I wouldn't be surprised if the latter one actually sells.
