Have you seen this?
I would so want a new smartphone and a B&O would be the best of all

I'm sorry but that looks horrible!
Just get an iPhone. B&O can never compete on the smartphone market. I'm glad they understood that.
Too long to list....

Thanks!
Maybe B&O could make an aluminum bumper for the iPhone!

Michael: Thanks for the post. It looks like a Sony. My next smartphone will not be an iPhone and any new entrant can only be good news for competition. So thanks ;)

Yes, competition is good, just looks what it did for us all. If it wasn't for the iPhone we would probably still be frustrated with these "smartphones" in the picture. Only difference the Nokia wouldn't be named E62, but E92, and feature a different color scheme.
I'm with you on the first posts (using a Serenata is horrible), but I seriously disagree on this last one. After all Nokia was the first to introduce a quite intuitive touch screen smart phone back in 2004 (the 7710) when Apple could hardly produce anything serious enough to mention.
The fact is though that company arrogance has caused many companys to drop their innovative projects and move to protect their current state. On the mobile phone market for instance first Motorola (stuck with RAZR whatever) then Nokia (stuck with Symbian) and last but not least Apple (hail the fifth row of icons and earbuds). So I really don't think it's Apple we are to thank for the amount of useful smartphones nowadays, but rather the consumers who have decided to invest their money in even more expensive gadgets year after year.
And yes, I know that anything negative regarding Apple seems to be a taboo, so sorry in advance for this posting.
Negative about apple isn't taboo, on this site, it's almost the opposite.
But claiming that Nokia was the first with a touch screen is far from the truth! Intuitive or not.
Back in 2004 Apple might not have been as known it is today (obviously) but it already produced the best laptops, and portable music players.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Chris, here in Finland the national pastime used to be putting all your savings and a bit more into Nokia stock...
This was probably a great thing back in 1999 as you bought the stock for 30 euros (FIM back then actually) and the next year your investment had doubled...
Now this it isn't that much of a great pastime anymore, as your "retirement fund" has all but disappeared.
Looking at the local financial sites there seems to be an unusual strong wish among common folks to get the Nokia share to rise in price. Bashing Apple online is somehow thought to "up" the share price of Nokia.
I just don't get the Apple bashing. Completely without content.
Saying that B&O phones didn't make any point, and that it was good they left the market (where they didn't have a place) isn't bashing B&O, it's commending them for making the right choice, getting out of it!
I did my bit by taking my wife to Tampere for a romantic weekend a few years back, as Ryanair were offering 99p tickets. As it was a public holiday everything was shut so we cuddled up in one of the only bars we(i mean me)could find open...

Looks like a "cosy" place!
Quite interesting since I get the feeling of being labeled as an Apple hater or basher, so I rest my case regarding the last line of my first post Actually I am using quite many gadgets produced by this fruit company mentioned.
My point merely is that I truly don't think Apple is the saviour of modern smartphones as Andreas mentioned. Moreover in my opinion the true gain from Apple products comes with the huge amount of 3rd party software and also hardware, such as those produced by B&O. This was for me the foremost reason to switch away from an open source smartphone (the N9, which IMHO was a true shame to drop).
As for company arrogance regarding Apple. I consider it to be arrogance for example that Apple did not include the possibility to even choose a Bluray drive on their computers as well as not utilising industry standard connectors such as micro USB on their mobile devices. One might call this "company charisma" since it causes more than enough feelings pro and contra to make their products even more noticeable.
If Apple had done things "industry standard" wise, we wouldn't have seen retina displays, aluminum unibody enclosures for the computers, we wouldn't have seen a truly breakthrough Operating system 10 years ahead of the competition (OS X) etc. etc. etc.
Industry standard, is never a good thing when it comes to innovation. I'm glad there's still companies that have a hint of imagination, something the blue former giant in Espoo lacks.
Blue-ray was dead before it was born. A relic.
What is it that a micro-usb can do that the 30-pin connector or the lightning connector couldn't? And the added benefit of it is of course that you don't have to make sure it's right side up to insert it.

Well, if you want to put it that way, would you prefer 5 different voltages in your home power outlets? Or perhaps 8 different kind of sockets to plug in your power leads? The purpose of industry standars is to make things easier and less complicated. You don't have to be so pessimistic about them.
For example the new Apple lightning connector (or nano sim) hardly brings any advantage that couldn't be accomplished with industry standard connectors. Its purpose is rather to tie one harder down to keep on using their products for it is more challenging to switch from one brand to another.
Regarding Bluray, I consider this relic to be rather useful when it comes to making back ups from digital images for archiving purposes for example. I think it is more a matter of purpose rather than principle.
I think we have deviated enough from the original thread and made our points already. I'm not trying to convince you out of your opinion, but i suggest we terminate this conversation since it hardly brings any value.
Cheers!
Kammeri, you can hardly compare the lightning connector to a home mains outlet..... But speaking of mains connectors, they are HARDLY industry standards! Or try and fit a shuko mains in GB, or USA or.... you catch my drift?
Then, surely there's been much rumors around the "lightning" wording in the lightning adaptor. While there's no thunderbolt chips in iPhone 5, who knows if there will be in the future. Thunderbolt is far superior to USB.
Blue-Ray Backup, yes, but HDD's are dirt cheap today, so why not have an LAN/WLAN Raid disc where you can store hundreds of "blue-ray disks". You just drag and drop your files, no need to burn and listen to that dreadful blue-ray station spinning.
You think that Apple just decided without any research to skipping blue-ray? New line of Macbooks don't have and won't have optical drives at all. A smart move IMHO.
Nano sim, is about making the phone thinner, getting more space for a bigger battery. Have you looked at the insides of the iPhone 5 for example. I think the whole concept of a sim-card is outdated... I'm not a telecommunications expert, but I wonder will simcards be around in 10-15 years, or isn't this something that could be permanently installed on a tiny-tiny chip in the phone, and be user updatable, in case you switch carriers/numbers etc.
I'm sorry that you get such a PITB from a lightning connector.
The world is evolving, and "industry standards" are not immune to evolution. Look what iTunes did to the record store, look what it did to music labels. To our benefit! Albums, that contained one or two good songs had to be bought at 20-25 euros, today most albums in iTunes are about 10 euro, and if you just want the one song, it's 1 euro!
What a huge discussion.
Well. I own a iphone 4 and I truly love it. It is so amazing and easy to use. On the run I can go through my email, forums, and so on, but as a true BO owner I want to stand out.
I am even now sourcing a Serene just to own one because it till is a head turner. I remember when I bought the Serene brand new. I was the first owner in Iceland and I was 17 years old. I had preordered and was first on the list.
I put all my money away and when I got it it was like getting a Ferrari.
No one knew what it was and it was beutiful.
I felt special and believe me I dont feel special with a iphone. I feel comfort with, but when the Iphone 5 came out I didnt iven consider getting one since I could do all the same things in the 4.
I gave my old phone to my brother and still when he takes it out of his ocket he gets questions like " wth is this?" He answers: its a BO phone.
People are like " you must be loaded and stuff, but the best part is that it is an old phone that you can only use for ringin and smsing is a pita.
Thats why I was hoping for a new BO phone. To feel special again.
You need a B&O phone to feel "special"?
I'm sorry to hear that.

DMacri,
Are you familiar with the history of B&O mobile phone economic failure?
DMacri:No, I misunderstood your comment as less specific than that. Sorry for my misunderstanding.
No problem, and you are right it was a bit of a silly comment with Pun intended.
Variety is great, but for a niche company like B&O to make a unique phone makes no point.
And the pun intended that I had, was ofcourse regarding "special". I mean B&O makes me feel great when I get home and can put on some nice movie or some good music. But special? Nope.
bayerische: Blue-ray was dead before it was born. A relic.
It is wrong to say that Blu-Ray was dead before it was born.
At the time when Blu-Ray was born, only very few people had access to internetconnections with the speed needed to show HD material.Very few TV stations offered HD -and even fewer on the net (if any) offered movies or other content in HD quality.
And even today a lot of the 'HD' you can download or stream is not as good quality as a Blu-Ray disc. And many so-called 'HD channels' are in lower resolution than Blu-Ray.And another thing - still today not all people have access to broadband speeds needed to stream movies in real HD quality.

Well if it was not "dead" yesterday, it is "dead" now as at CES Sony is announcing 4K Blu-Ray ... the successor to BR.
So once again disc technology leaps over bandwidth ... for a now

Mechanically spinning discs... Well my car needs a flywheel and disc brakes.
