Hello everyone,

I have have just purchased a beomaster 5000 amp, beovox 1000 speakers and a beogram 1600 as a "starter pack", all cheap buys on e bay and have fallen in love with it already. I am looking to better my set up but on a fairly tight budget has anyone any ideas? Also seen a pair of redline 60.2 speakers fairly cheap how much of an improvement would there be between them and the 1000s ?

I suspect the beovox 1000 speakers might require you to keep the BM5000 volume on the low side!

Search the forum and archived forum for advice on the best matching speakers ( and look for speakers without foam rot if you want to keep your refurbishment work to a minimum).

Also consider the condition of the components you have already bought. Pick the best and look them up on the products page of the main site where you will find the other components that were designed to work with what you have got.

Do you mean a Beomaster 5000, or a Beolab 5000? Either way, the Beovox 1000s can be bettered. I would consider Beovox S45.2 speakers as these are superb sounding and easily available. If you want more bass, S75s are their bigger brother. RL speakers are fine but will need new capacitors as they get very dull with age. RL60.2s are the ones to go for - plenty of power handling and not too big! The original RL60s have an Auxiliary Bass Radiator that rots away and spoils the sound.

Thanks for the advice. You are right about the volume even though the wife seems to think it is loud enough. I will keep looking I didn't realise ther is a B&O community out there, thanks for the advice.

It is a Beomaster 5000. I am trying to build the stack system but keep losing out on e bay I didn't think they would be as much as they are. Thanks for the advice I think I will go for the 60.2 s I quite like the look of the RLs. Would it be a good match with the amp?

Very much so, but better approve the design with your wife before getting a pair - it's a love or hate thing Big Smile

You can also look for the newer RL6000. They are technically essentially the same speaker but available in a glossy black finish / black cloth combo which usually matches modern decor better.

To be honest Mika I really don't think she is too bothered. I think it's quite a modern look for something that age, they must of been cutting edge back in the day. Thanks for the advice. I am finding all this B&O stuff is getting a bit addictive!!!

Sounds like I may have caught the bug does there ever come a time when you are content with what you have instead of constantly trawling through e bay!

If that's a question, then the answer is no, I'm afraid. Don't despair, though, you're in good company.

Just brought the  60.2 s on eBay £59 I haven't seen them yet but the seller says they all work fine . Does that sound expensive?

That sounds fine! With most B&O, the cosmetics are what really determine the price - electronics can be repaired - deep scratches of tears are much more of a problem.

I noticed on the amp it has four ports? for speakers, would there be any benefit to use the RLS 60.2 s with the beovox 1000s or is it just over kill?

The rl60.2s are far superior to the 1000's and the 1"000s will limit how loud you can go.

I would get back on eBay and buy an amp of the right vintage as the 1000's and have two set ups!!

To be honest I am pretty impressed with the 1000s. As this is my first experience with B&O I have been impressed with all of my stuff so far, can't wait to hear the difference between them. Unfortunately I have not got enough room for another set up, otherwise that would be a great idea. But you never know as I said this is all getting a bit addictive.

so unfair Smile

and did you (foolishly) respond with, "and if you buy another:

  1. overlocker
  2. sewing machine
  3. knitting machine
  4. sewing/knitting/patchwork pattern
  5. tapestry pattern
  6. every so slightly and indistinguishable coloured ribbon/silk thread/wool
  7. patch of cloth
  8. bolt of cloth
  9. 45 litre container to hold some of the above

so help me I will need to move into the garage/garden shed/outhouse/doghouse/our son's apartment ?"

No.  I said, "Yes, dear," which is actually more effective than any of the other replies.

Just got the RL 60.2s put them in place of the 1000s the wife doesn't know yet she is still at work.I think she will notice the difference. I am not sure if I will make any promises as to whether or not this will be my last purchase as I still need a CD player. The sound from these is far superior to the 1000s I am very happy with them. Just not sure everyone will feel the same, fingers crossed.
