I am looking to buy a BS8 as a link room speaker. At the moment I have two Beolab 2000s and a Beolab 3500 working on Wireless 1's (and it all works brilliantly)
I'm looking to get a BS8 and the room it will be in will be too difficult to wire in the Masterlink or Beolink cables, plus I have a further spare Wireless 1 I can use.
I have researched this site and the Archived Forum and see that you can use the BS8 with numerous cables including a Powerlink converter cable (for simple Powerlink connection) or via a the PC port on a Beolink Active (to add it to a Masterlink setup). SoundsHeavenly website shows numerous other variations for connecting. But is it possible to use the BS8 connected to a Powerlink socket on a Wireless 1.
In other words, does the Powerlink socket on the Wireless 1 act the same as if it was connected directly to a Powerlink socket on the audio master? or does the fact that it is running off a Wireless 1 mean it won't work
Thanks in advance
Stoobie
PS, please don't suggest a Beoplay 8 or Playmaker or Airplay etc. I know they all work and are possibilities.
Short answer - yes
Powerlink out to phono in, cd, radio etc on remote via ir reciever and the bs8 wakes up.
This is good to know!
Too long to list....
Thanks for the positive response. Looks like I'll have a new toy soon

I take it this means an IR receiver plugged into the Wireless 1 and not the IR on the BS8?

Yes.
To avoid "double volume control" you should set the BeoSound 8 either to "A.OPT" "0" = BSd 8 will react only to it's own (BSd 8) remote, or "A.OPT" "4" = BSd 8 will react only if "LINK" has been selected from "LIST" before.
Just ordered the BS8 Can't wait for it to arrive. Need to order the cable next.
I'll let you know how I get on with the wireless link (although there may be an issue with the software versions on my various wireless 1's) not sure if my two spares are running the same software version as the 4 I have up and running .
Stoobie, Had my Beosound 8 for about 18 months now and its a super bit of kit. I love it!

Hi Chris,
Can't wait for mine to arrive.
It has ended up to be an expensive weekend. My partner and I decided no Christmas presents this year. Speakers for the dining room were "essential" and we have Beolab 3500 and Beolab 2000 speakers but heard the BS8 and it was far better than either of those so ordered it (it was essential and not a Christmas present of course!).
We then decided our Mercedes ML could do with bigger alloys so I bid on Ebay and got a really decent set as compensation to both of us for not getting each other presents. I then needed to get tyres and got an excellent deal. Went to have the tyres fitted to the rims today and when they put the rims on the car, the old bolts were too short. So a trip the the Mercedes dealer and they were £6.70 ( + vat) per bolt. We need 16 plus 4 locking bolts. The bill was just under £190. The wheels look great :o) and I know I probably could have got the bolts for less on the net, but I was there, they had them and I wanted it all sorted. All in all £1300 on 4 new wheels for the car.
Next year I think we will revert to Christmas presents. I saw a nice Adele CD for £8.50 and some socks at M&S lol.
I certainly hope the BS8 sounds as good as I remember.

it is always good to look on the bright side of life

Well my White BS8 has arrived and I'm even more impressed with it than when in the store looking at it. The sound is brilliant for the size and knocks spots off both my Beolab 2000 and Beolab 3500 and it works with a Wireless 1.
The sound is different to the BL2000 in that it seems fuller but either is a good small speaker. But it is far better than the BL3500 (which i was quite disappointed with once purchased), the BS8 has a deeper fuller sound, much, much more powerful bass, but still manages the lighter notes. I think a BL3500 and a Beolab 11 would beat it, but certainly not on it's own. I am one really happy customer! Of course I'm only comparing with speakers that are a "pair in one cabinet" and know that there are probably other better options with "free standing" speakers.
Big thanks to Steve (Soundsheavenly) who offered a cable on a return basis if it did not work. I wanted to connect to a Wireless 1 and he provided a Powerlink to Phono cable. The Wireless 1 was being used with my Penta labs and has the IR eye. I unplugged the Pentas and I plugged in the BS8, Nothing happened to begin with using the front control or BS8 remote, I messed with the options on the BS8 and Wireless 1 with a Beo4, messed with the manual control on the IR reciever and it started to work. Not sure how yet but wanted to report it does work.
I won't be able to play for a few weeks, and have put it all away. I have another Wireless 1 that I will try next time, and as I work my way through I will note down what I do and what works and then report back. I know Wireless 1's are not popular on here but someone may find the info useful.
Imagine your system playing your favourite tracks throughout the house, but outside where you are sitting having a BBQ, a Wireless 1 and BS8 playing too. I went for the BS8 for this reason. I don't have Apple, less through choice than the fact I use windows phones and stuck with them as I'm a PC/Linux user too, and although I did think of the A8 and airplay etc, the BS8 is half the price new on some sites and not having Apple didn't seem to be an issue as my Wireless 1 does exactly what I'd hoped!
