Maybe this is something I'm overlooking, but I bought an Edge the other day, set it up with Chromecast, but it doesn't show on Spotify as an available speaker on my Mac.

The strange thing is, it shows on the iOS version of Spotify, just not the Mac or Windows 'desktop' version of the app?

More strange still, my BeoSound 2 appears on all versions, iOS, Windows or Mac. It's just the Edge that doesn't appear on the desktop.

Any ideas?

Check where you usually find airplay.

You usually can’t start casting from a computer. You can start from an iOS device and then control it from the computer. But it has to be initiated from a mobile device.

Tried this, makes no difference. The Edge is available through Airplay and Chromecast on the iOS devices and can be played, but quit those and switch to the desktop and the Edge isn't listed as an Airplay or Chromecast available device. BeoSound 2 is, however.

Why would the BeoSound 2 be listed as a Chromecast 'available device' but not the Edge.

Perplexing.

What Chromecast versions are your products on?

Is this on the spotify desktop app? Only spotify connect devices show on the desktop annoyingly, unless you start streaming to the chromecast device from your mobile first. Perhaps the beosound 2 has spotify connect built in and the edge doesn't?

This is what I tried to explain, so I will continue on yours, Rob.

When you are connecting from the iOS app, you can choose if it should use airplay or Chromecast. You can click the icon and change what it uses as standard. This is actually a pretty smart feature.

You cannot initiate a cast from Spotify in a pc or mac.

Yes you can. I do it all the time with my BeoSound 2. That's my entire point.

From my MacBook, at work, I can open Spotify, select the BeoSound 2 and play via the desktop version of Spotify via Chromecast....no iOS involved and not needed to initiate.

So how can it work with the BeoSound 2, but not Edge?

The difference is, Beosound 2 supports Spotify Connect, Beosound Edge does not.

Are you 100% sure that you, at work, are playing via Chromecast and not airplay?

From the Spotify website:

Want to play from your desktop?

It’s not possible to find a Chromecast device from the Spotify desktop app, but you can still use it to control the music:

Launch Spotify on Chromecast with your phone, tablet, or the web player following these steps.

Note: Chromecast is only compatible on the web player with the Chrome browser.

Use the desktop app to control your listening.

So most likely moxxey is connecting, not casting.

Oh FFS! That's not good. Such a shame. Was hoping it would perform exactly like the BeoSound 2.

Yes, that's what's happening. It's using "Spotify Connect" which is stated under the 'Beosound 2' name under a list of devices in Spotify. So only the iOS devices use Chromecast.

I always thought "Spotify Connect" was using Chromecast to make a direct connection to the speaker.

Spotify has its own protocol, called Connect.....which has nothing to do with CC or AP(2).

Just like the M3, the Edge has no support for Spotify Connect....neither has the Balance.

P.S.

It was mentioned, that the Balance will be updated for Spotify Connect

https://www.bang-olufsen.com/~/mediaV3/files/press-releases/bang-olufsen/beosound-balance/200228-2-beosound-balance-press-release.pdf

This might (?) create a hope that there might (?) be a future update for the Edge and the M3 as well.

Hi Thomas. I can’t use Spotify connect with my beosound 2. It uses google Cast instead. Can you verify the Spotify connect?
