Connect Beolab 9 to TV, Apple TV 4K and turn table

I would like to set up the following. I have a pair of Beolab 9 speakers. These I would like to connect to my TV, Apple TV 4K and turn table.

I was thinking about buying a DAC with volume control. Is this an option? If so, which one would you advice? Or is a Sonos Amp an option? Preferably something small.

In my opinion, the very best solution is a Beosound Core. It is what I have been using for the past two years with my televisions, Beolab 9's, 20's and 12's. 

1. Buy a BeoSound Core

2. Buy a 3.5mm audio splitter (2 female X 1 male)

3. Insert the splitter into the BeoSound Core's Line in/optical jack.

4. Connect your BeoLab 9s to the Beosound Core using the PowerLink output (you need the ethernet jack to powerlink to one speaker and then speaker to speaker via Powerlink)

5. Apple TV 4K to TV via HDMI

6. Line out/ headphone out from TV to Beosound Core (to one of two female 3.5mm stereo inputs)

7. Connect the turntable from RCA to 3.5mm stereo to Besound Core.

That would work. The core will sense the audio from either the Turntable or TV (try not to have them both outputting sound at the same time!) and will wake up the speakers. You can control the volume using your B&O App or Essence Remote.

I haven't tried this set up but I have tried all sorts of permutations and combinations and they usually seem to work fine 🤷🏽‍♂️

I would warn against using the two-in-one cable.

Rather go for a small manual switch.

Set it to the output from the tv (which you probably use most) and switch over to the turmtable, when you are handling that anyway.

Best way to eliminate false handling and noice activating the Core-input unintendedly.

Thank you for your reply's. Twice I read about the BeoSound Core. I see this is quite an expensive option to only get the turn table working so I'd rather go for something else (if possible). Is there anything possible?

Powmascables thought it would be possible to connect the turn table directly to the TV using the RCA to RCA or headphones to RCA. This would be a great option but I don't seem to get it work. Any advice on this?

Had a look at the TV user guide and the following may work imo.

(1) Apple TV to be connected HDMI to TV, no brainer

(2) The following for the turntable may work, hoping that Audio input only will suffice to make the External input active:

Thank you for your help. I've tried so many things with the RCA plug's but can't get it to work. At first I only had the red and white connected but the yellow one is a must as well. Sadly it didn't work. I am now using AirFoil for streaming from my turn table to the Apple TV. Works as an alternative.

Eventually I've ordered Bosscom 5mm shielded cables and a USB Trigger to DIN8 cable. The 2 problems I'm now facing are:

• When turning off my TV the speakers make a loud 'bang'
• When pausing audio there's a hum. Also when playing not so loud songs.

What can I do about this?

I posted the same question in several places last year and got no cost effective solution, and finally had to find one myself.

 

No offence to the person who posted a long listed of items to buy including a besound core and then connect it to headphone out of TV....that for me is total waste.....

 

The problem I had was volume control in a preamplifier. The cheapest solution is Cambridge Audio C500 preamplifier. It accepts 4-5 inputs of sound source and has 2 parallel outputs in stereo.

 

I used this to connect my Beolan 7.2 as soundbar for normal use and Beolab 8000 for Stereo Music. Output goes to both set of speakers always and we can power on whichever we need. I get Volume control as well as Bass and Treble control through C500. C500 comes with remote.

 

All you need to get is a power trigger cable set from Steve from Soundheavenly, for connecting Beolab 9 to C500.

 

As for TV, I have a samsung 55 curve. that comes with a line out mode, which in itself doesnt have volume control, which is fine as c500 can take care of it. This is by far the cheapest solution without losing sound quality. Happy for someone to prove me wrong.
