Hello all,
Can anyone help? So I've a BeoVision 10-46 TV, BeoSound 9000 CD player and BeoLab 8000 speakers. The remote seems fine as it's working with TV, but it no longer controls CD player (which works if you use its own controls but doesn't relay any sound to the speakers) and both TV and CD player fail to connect to Soundbar in separate room. Seems to be a general all-round signalling problem. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Sounds like a masterlink connection problem. Power the system down (unplug power), and check the masterlink connections, particularly at the TV and BS9000. The masterlink plugs are the rectangular ones like large hdmi plugs. Check that they are all pushed fully home (maybe unplug and re-insert).
If there is a masterlink junction box, check the plugs that go into this too.
( Guy beat me to it) A little more information will make it easier for us to help.
You say it no longer controls CD and fails to connect to soundbar. What soundbar do you have? I assume it was all working. Did you change anything or add anything new.
It sounds like you may have changed the options setting. Please describe how everything is connected.
Thanks
Stoobie
Most likely to be faulty connections in the ML junction box.
If you know where that is located, please check - or at least take a picture to post here.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks, Gary. Will try this. You mean that the HDMI plugs in the back of the telly are all secure?
Thanks, Gary. I think I just replied, but not sure if it posted OK. Will check these connections - into the back of the telly, right?
Hi Stoobietoo
Thanks for your help. Can't find out what model soundbar is (even searching images on line) but it's same vintage as the CD player. Rounded black-mesh front and silver flat ends. Display in the middle of the bar. It was all working fine and nothing at all has been changed or moved.
Where would the options setting be? It's all connected through the TV, I believe.
Thanks again.
Hello Millemissen
I've no idea where the ML junction box is, I'm afraid.
Thanks for replying.
The ‘soundbar’, you have, is a link speaker........a Beolink 3500.
Knowing this makes it fairly easy to find the user guide online ;-)
The link settings - of the BL3500 and in general - are made using a Beo4!
If it is not something with these option settings, you should try to locate the junction box.
since you have 3 Masterlink devices there must be a junction of these cables somewhere in the house - try following the cables.
Often - if there is an attic in your home - these cables are joined up there using a junction box.
That sounds like a Beolab 3500 speaker. (Millemissen beat me to it )
The plugs that Guy is talking about are the Masterlink plugs (see below). There should be one running out of the TV and the BS9000 and the BL3500. They will also have to join somewhere.
Somewhere there will be a junction box, where Millemissen mentions the could be a faulty connection. All 3 B&O cables will either be plugged into a box with multiple Masterlink sockets or they will enter a small black box where they are all joined together inside.
One of the first things to do is switch everything off, then power down all 3 items at the wall socket by turning off the socket or unplugging. (Make sure you have the PIN Codes for the TV and BS9000 before you turn off if they are PIN protected.). Push the Masterlink plugs in firmly in the back of each item to make sure they are tight and do the same in the junction box if there is one Then power on the TV at the wall (or plug back in), followed by the BS9000 and then the BL3500. Once all powered back on, try controlling in the usual way. This usually resets any signalling isues in the Mastertlink system.
If that does not work then it may be as Millemissen says, and you need to find the junction box and check the connections especially of it is the smaller type where the wires go inside to join.
If every thing was working and you haven't changed or added anything then it is unlikely to be the option settings, which I thought it could be, unless someone has fiddled with those, but that is not something you can do by accident unless you press specific buttons on the remote control, and you would have to do that for for the BS9000 and the BL3500 separately.
Thanks for identifying link speaker. (-:
We don't have a Beo 4, I don't think. What is that?
I have never seen the junction box - not even in the attic (which would be a long way away requiring lots of wiring, so I'm doubting it's there - though the TV aerial is there, of course . . . ). The CD player wires run into a wall . . . maybe they do go all the way upstairs. I'll have to go and have a look. I wasn't here when it was all wired in (ages ago) so it's a little tricky. I may have to find a B&O friendly engineer type person (pricey no doubt) if the attic doesn't yield an answer.
I'm still interested in the Options bit, though - as the remote control buttons may well have been fiddled with by accident (by me) when things happen such as stations changing frequency. Also, nothing else, apart from remote has been moved or changed. Can you please tell me more about Options?
This is the Beo4
I think the first thing is to unplug the power for everything from the wall and plug it back in as suggested. This usually sorts out about 90% of problems like this.BUT please make sure you know your PIN numbers for the TV and BS9000 because you WILL need them if they are PIN protected and you unplug at the wall.
To change the option using your Beo4 you will have had to press the red dot power button AND the LIST button together at the same time. Then arrow up/down until the screen says OPTION, then press GO and then some other button presses, It is not something you can do in error unless you really were unlucky when trying to do other things. So I don't think it will be this as you will have had to do it accidentally in the room with the BS9000 and then again in the room with the BL3500. So please do not change this until we have tried the other issues.
The smaller connection box for the cables is about the size and thickness of the silver part of the Beo4 at the bottom (with no buttons) so it is not big and if the TV, CD and Speaker are on 1 floor they may not have needed to go into the attic and it might be in the run of cables behind the TV or near the BS9000.
Just to clarify. The option setting, although done with the Beo4, does not change antything on the remote, but rather it changes how the TV, BS9000 or BL3500 react to the remote.
@Susfly
Believe me, I have had plenty of these errors to fix over the years.
Usually MasterLink is very stable, but with cables and connections, that were established many years ago, there are failures from time to time.
Even if you find the junction box, I would not recommend that you start ‘repairing’ it. Mostly a rewiring in the box is needed.....a job for a skilled (older) B&O technician.
However, locating the junction box and the cable run could be of help, if you decide to let a tecnician sort it out - saves time (and money).
(It very rare to see a ML distributor in a normal ML installation.....I bet there is a junction box - the small one - somewhere in the house).
Also this conversation/thread might help, if you have to explain the symptoms to the technician.
Even if is ‘costy’ to let someone in knowing have a look, it will be worth it....if you generally are pleased with the setup that you have.
Ah ha! Thanks, Stoobietoo! OK, we'll try the simple unplug-plug in a bit later with both TV and CD. Will keep an eye out for the little silver box. Thanks so much.
Hi, just to confirm, the box will be black (sometimes white)
Just to give you an idea how this box is used, have a look at the pictures here:

Sorry for the delay in replying. In seeking to plug and unplug TV, I rashly decided to entirely clear out the cable cupboard underneath where TV is situated. In the process I sorted out some redundant wires and also removed a DVD recorder which we no longer use. The stage is set for me to be able to trace the correct plug now. BUT at this moment, the TV is saying 'Signal weak', check connections. So we're just wanting to get the TV working again. The rest would be gravy. I have not interfered with any of the wires going into the back of the TV, apart from taking the aerial lead that was stuck into the back of the digital recorder and plugging that into the TV itself. It did no good, connection wise. Any suggestions gratefully received, as it would be lovely to have TV back again during lockdown. (The original problem now seems minor.) Thanks.
Try putting the DVD recorder back and see if that resolves the 'signal weak' problem.
You may find that the DVD recorder either:
A - Amplified the aerial signal slightly (prior to being fed to TV) or,
B - Supplied power to a masthead amplifier, thus strengthening the TV signal that you were receiving.
If replacing the DVD recorder solves the signal weak problem, we can investigate further.
