I have a BeoSound 4 hooked up to a BeoSystem 3. Unfortunately, I cannot get the tuner to detect any radio stations. When I was in the United States, I successfully had the radio tuner pick up local radio signals. Now I am in Vietnam and it will not pick up any radio signal. Is there something I am missing? Please let me know.
What way are you trying to receive radio reception ? Antenna ?
I am guessing that your Beosound 4 is fitted with a DAB or DAB+ module and there are no DAB transmissions in your area of Vietnam or Vietnam in general.
I am not sure, but I think that units sold in the US only had DAB and not FM
Regards Keith....
Guys thank you so much for your quick replies!
The Beosound 4 system that I have has an antenna port and I never received an antenna from the owner. There were however US Radio stations that were programmed in before and they were on the FM band. I was able to pick up radio signals on another FM receiver, however when I autotune I receive nothing.
Please advise. Thank you again!
EDIT: Also I wanted to mention this is a European system.
Check the back of the unit for the 4 digit TYPE number ?
2851 and i got one radio station to work randomly when I autotuned.
OK, Type Number 2851 is an EU version excluding the UK, BUT there were actually two EU versions with the same Type Number as below:-
DAB and DAB+ are different physical units.
Please check the item number on the back of the unit
Sorry for the late reply, but the item number on the back of the unit is 1200000
EDIT: Did I mention that the unit also has a FM antenna input?

Can you please confirm that you do have an aerial connected to the FM aerial input ?
Keith, thanks again for your eagerness to help and your willingness to share your knowledge.
I in fact do NOT have an aerial connected to the FM aerial input. As stated in my previous post, I mistakingly called the aerial port an "antenna" port. Again, I never received an aerial from the owner and he assures me that the dealer never provided one. But why would FM US radio stations tune in and the ones in Vietnam will not? Previously, I had no aerial connected to the aerial port and everything was working. Why would I need an aerial now?
I have a Beosound 4 here in the States. Even with close proximity to a major city I find that I need the aerial antenna connected for good reception. I know that isn't probably what you want to hear but it was the case for me. I have mine wall mounted and the antenna was discretely routed behind. The good news is that I believe it uses a standard coax connector so you could most likely source one locally. Perhaps the previous owner lived in a down-town area very close to the broadcast towers.
So I went out to a local electronics store and they didn't have it. I guess I will just have to do without it until I can get my hands on one. Thanks again guys!

You will need an Aerial of some sort for sure. As a test just get a long piece of wire and connect one end to the centre pin of the aerial socket which is likely to be enough to pick up the strongest signal in your area. Small FM aerials are cheap to buy from many sources.
In fact a small diameter screwdriver in the FM connector will get you a signal - usually a surprisingly good one!!

The question is, if there are different FM tuners fitted in EU/US models of the BeoSound 4.
There is a difference in frequency spacing in the US this is 0,2 Mhz and in the EU this is 0.05 MhzThis could be an possible issue as well.

I built an aerial out of parts that I could find locally and I picked up 7 more radio stations! So yes, the aerial made all the difference. Thanks guys!
