I know…B&O virus has grown on me !
I have an Atlona 4x4 matrix that I installed for my B&O setup. The Atlona components are prone to fault, and this can be very frustrating. However, Atlona does have a good replacement policy.
My thought on the matrix is that the actual need for a matrix is rather a thing of the past. It's more practical to just add an Apple TV to each TV. The Apple TVs synchronize their layout and content across each other. Therefore, you get a very similar experience to that of having a matrix. Also, the HDMI communication for the 4K HDR Apple TV is very challenging to get correct. I can't imaging trying to get the proper handshake across 4K HDR TVs in a matrix wit the Apple TV 4K.
Fansastic:My needs are solely for an AppleTV 4K, Playstation 3/4(and5) and maybe in future an 4K UtraHD DVD player. First look at Atlon this model will do: AT-UHD-PRO3-44M Does anyone has experience with the matrix and will a PS be possible, taking into account I need some sort of remote receiver for the controllers also

I have a Pulse Eight 4*4 matrix (essentially copy of the Atlona).
I have issues with it in hot weather, as my unit is in a cabinet not a rack - and 4K matrices all have fans that can get noisy, depending on temperature.
These units are generally designed for a rack.
When they get very hot, mine (at least) can misbehave.
Thankfully in the UK its not common, so outside of those 2 weeks per year, mine actually behaves itself very well.
I do love having other rooms with just a wall mounted BV and nothing else - super clean.
But that all said - I'm not sure they as necessary now. Smart TV's have so much content built in, you can very well get away without a matrix these days. Depends on how clean you want your installations / rooms to be, and whether you really needs access to a whole bunch of sources in secondary / tertiary rooms.
When it comes to managing video resolution output to different TVs - the matrix will default to the lowest common denominator. So HD if you are mixing HD and 4K panels. I have one of each panel connected to my matrix - I do set one source (Fire TV 4k box) to always output 4K, so it delivers 4k to my Avant, but my 12-65 wont show anything from the Fire TV, unless I change the setting. So there is some flexibility with a matrix.
For the record the Pulse Eight version is about 1/2 price of the Atlona.
Fansastic:Hi all, I’m looking for more information regarding the experiences with an HDMI matrix setup. It is an expensive but nice solution to have all the devices in on kabinet and use it throughout the house. No worries.
The other consideration is this : the clean look and operation with >1 BeoVision is awesome yes, all the more so because its facilitated by the BR One. And while thats all been a well trodden route with Beovisions in the recent past, if you wanted say a modern panel setup, that would require a UHD Atlona matrix (both 4K & HDR), which with more than one Eclipse / Harmony, becomes serious money.
I face that choice if I upgraded my 12-65 and Avant.
And that means sinking an awful amount of money into B&O gear, when its far from clear that they'll even be around in 3-4 years.
So yes, day 1 would be great, but it would run the real risk of losing support / backing.
It's a shame because its a solution I really really like - my second BV is in my bedroom, and I never wanted additional Sky, Apple TV, BluRay players in there.
Fansastic:Thanks guys for the useful feedback, I agree that there is no real need for a matrix these day’s apart for the PS4 but that will bot work for gaming. The pro is the clean looks on all BV’s, the con is price and low necessity. Will give it some more thoughts.
Will give it some more thoughts.
As for my experience, I have the following sources available for distribution on the matrix:
1. Cable box
2. Apple TV
3. Oppo blu-ray player
4. Roku
99% of the time, I only use the Apple TV source. Individual Apple TVs could easily be strapped onto the back of each TV and hidden out of site. More costly to me than the $ amount of the matrix was the horrendous amount of time that I spent with Atlona support getting the thing to finally work.
