Hello BeoWorld!
So I'm new to B & O and a bit confused! I live in Canada, and I recently purchased a BeoCom 1 and a BeoLine (1084149 US... not sure how to find out what type number it is or whether it's PSTN or ISDN) from eBay.
Now, everything is going fine (the phone and the base talk to each other) except the phone alerts me that it can't find a dial tone.
From reading around this forum and searching on Google, I'm under the impression that BeoCom 1 and BeoLine US should work with Canadian phone lines. I'm rather confused as to how to solve this - whether it's a problem with the base, the phone, or the phone system here.
The phone lines and wires work (tested with a different phone system using the same jack and wires). Is this a hardware problem (should I take it to an electrician or B & O dealer, or did the seller sell me a defective product)?
Also, I've read about RJ11 jacks, and noticed that most of my phones have connectors that only have 2 pins. I'm guessing the BeoLine needs two pins as well (since two are required per line), so I tested it with both a connector that has two pins and another that has four (in case two pins are used for power) - same result.
Help!
A Very Warm Welcome to Beoworld.
I can confirm that Beoline 1's have a different 4 digit Type number between teh US and Canada as followS:-
However, I have not been able to determine the difference between the two in pure technical terms, however you should be able to determine if it is ISDN or PSTN. See diagram below. If it is a PSTN base then you need the connector block as shown in the diagram. Four wires are used to the Beoline from the block. Two wires are line and two are power supply.
If you have a BeoLine ISDN base, the the base indicator light (A) flashes, indicating that the base is open for registration of handsets. If you have a BeoLine PSTN base, press and hold the button on the back (B) for at least four seconds to open the base for registration of handsets.

Hi there, and thanks for the welcome and information!
From your post, it appears that my base is ISDN (the light flashes automatically when it is connected to power, and there is a separate phone jack for power, line 1/2 and line 2). Does this mean that the base won't work in my area?
Thanks again.
If you have an ISDN version, then you will need an ISDN phone line from the telecoms supplier which is a digital line rather than the PSTN line which is analogue.
Thanks, you've cleared it up for me - I really appreciate it.
