Hi,

I am new on the forum. I have recently purchased a pristine BEOGRAM 9500 Vinyl Player but the MMC is missing. I would like to know where I can purchase an original MMC1 or MMC 2? I have tried my local BEO Store and he suggested to go on here to find an original as he has seen my BEOGRAM 9500 and agrees it is in very good condition and worth the investment to get a very good MMC1 or MMC2.

Many thanks for any advice.

Depends on how much you will pay for the cartridge.

a brand new or new retipped mmc1 or smmc1 will be round about 1000€

a retipped mmc 2 I think about 300€

Soundsmith in NY, USA makes new replacement cartridges.  Their replacement for the original B&O MMC cartridges are very good and they are pricey.

There are a few really good cartridge refurbishing/retipping companies around now.  The also produce very good cartridges. The cartridge refurbish companies offer a number of options regarding the stylus and cantilever.  Those affect the price.

All of the B&O MMC1 through MMC5 cartridges will fit your BG9500.  The choice of cartridge and how much to spend is up to the individual. You know the limits of your hearing so if you have very discerning hearing then you will probably appreciate the higher end cartridges. If not then there isn't a need to spend the maximum possible :-).

I have a  Beogram with an MMC4 and a BeoGram with an MMC2 and can notice a huge difference. The MMC2 is incredibly detailed compared to the MMC4. I'm not sure, though, if I would be able to discern much of a difference between an MMC2 and MMC1.

I originally started out with an MMC5. About all I can say good about it was it played records, it is to my ears a pretty mediocre cartridge. The MMC4 is much better, but the MMC2 I have is something special. My friends always were amazed I could be happy with a Beogram after owning a VPI HW19, but the MMC2 is that good. From what I remember hearing the MMC1 is an MMC2 that was hand selected as having tighter tolerances/better measured performance than the MMC2s, the cream of the crop. Never heard an MMC1 but I can heartily recommend the MMC2 if you are serious about vinyl.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

I have both an mmc1 and 2 and you will hardly here any difference between. Especially when you use active speakers like 8000 or Beolab 3 or what ever.

you should always take a good MMC2. Mmc1 is absolutely the same only hand selected, what ever that means and the way it should sound better on paper you will not hear.
