Hello and first of all, scuse me for my bad English.....

I have had a wonderful Beovision5 from year 2002 but it has dead some years ago. Then i bought a Beovision 9 and i have put my Bv5 in garage waiting for repairs.....

Some months ago, i have had in my hands a Beosystem3 Mk1 and i started the job. I want to use Beosystem 3 to drive my old Beovision5.

I thought it can be simply but..... it is not at all!

The first thing is setting up the Bv5 plasma monitor.

I have connected Dvi "Display1" on Beosystem3 to Vga on Beovision5 plasma monitor. Then, i have connected Serial "Monitor" on Beosystem3 to Serial on Beovision5 plasma monitor.

I obviously did setting up "monitor" on Beosystem3 setup-menu (tryed every possible setting about "Beo monitor").

I have spent many and many hours about this thing, but it seems realli impossible........ I have two giant problems.

The first problem is:

When Bv5 plasma monitor is "on", it seems to "disturb" ir signals........ I press keys on Beo4 remote, but they are often not recognized....... When i cut off power and so turn off Bv5 monitor, ir signals are correctly recognised.

The second problem is:

It seems impossible to drive monitor functions "On Off Bright Dim Colors"...... I have connected the monitor via a "null modem cable". Not work. I have tryed to invert pin 2 and 3. Not work........

I am a little tired because i have spent many many time about this thing and i have had no success..... so i am here asking to you if someone know a way to do it.

I was considering idea about buying a new monitor and controlling it via Lintronic, but i woud like to use old Bv5 plasma monitor.......

Can someone help me suggesting some way to do the job?

I hope you have understand me because i know my english is very bad.....

Thank you!

Ema from Italy.

What is this strange thing around the "dvi" and "monitor" cables are going?...... Is it maybe something reducing interferences?........

Do you have any picture on your BV5 plasma from the BS3?

Why not getting a BV4- 42? It should fit into the cabinet.

Simple to connect to the BS3 in 720p...

I have a Bv5-42 screen...... Is not this same as Bv4- 42? Has it some different connections? This is the very important question!!

Of course. My BV4- 42 has VGA and DVI connecions and a Serial connector to turn it on or off. This fits perfect for BS 2 or 3...

My Bv5-42 monitor, has Vga and Serial connections too. So, i think this is the same monitor. I can see pictures on monitor (so, Vga signal is ok) but i have problems on "serial connections" and monitor does not turn on and off and does not adjust brightness and other setting. I need to know serial cable wiring....... I see only 3 wires and i need to know how to connect these.

Beosystem3, works anyway, even without "monitor cable" connected. So, you are able to turn on and off Beosystem3 simply pressing Beo4 key.....

"Monitor cable", is needed ro control a monitor turning it "on" and "off" and sending a "signal"  in order to "bright", "dim" and other functions. It has only 3 wires. But it seems not working at all with Bv5 monitor. So, i think some differences between Bv5monitor and Bv4monitor......... What is the difference?

The Beosystem 3 works well on pretty any computermonitor.

The Beovision 5 plasma monitor accept only RGB signals without VESA and doesn't accept hd signals, like 720P.

The BS3 is always used with at least DVI, which has digital information and analog VGA (differ on version DVI).

So, the first question still remains, when the Beosystem 3 starts up, do you have a picture on the Beovision 5 plasma?

Then normally, advanced communication via the serial cable for active setting (brightness, colour, etc) can be done when the Beosystem 3 recognizes the attaches panel (in this the BV5, which will be not recognized). Normally the DVI input of the newer panels in your BV9 is used for this. During startup the BS3 gets information which resolutions can be used.

The VGA cable in the Beovision 5, which you removed, contains only RGB (or Component, I don't remember) video signal with horizontal and vertical synchronation signals.

Even in the older Beosystem 2 you needed to make the proper setting for which panel was used. They started with a D4 Panasonic panel. Which to my imagination will probably not function well with the Beosystem 3. The D6 pane; was the first panel you could put a DVI module in. That enhanced the possible resolutions, like the 576p, 1080i and 720p (in the D7).

I Have no problem with displaying pictures. As i said, I can see correctly pictureson monitor, but i am not able to turn it "on/off" and adjust brightness, contrast and luminance.

I think i have tryed every way to control Bv5 monitor, but it does not works. Maybe Bv5 screen is different from Bv4 screen..... It seems strange, but after trying everyway to do this, i think so........ I have use a "Panasonic remote" and monitor works well...... but connecting via rs232 to Beosystem3, it does not works at all...... It is not recognized, it does not turns on/off, it does not bright/dim. So, it seems not usable at all........

Hi

You also had a question about the link eye being disturbed by the plasma screen.

I had same issue. Some of the B&O Link eyes are not plasma protected. You will need another link eye.

I had an old BV5 as well. However, I decided to upgrade the panel to get HD picture, HD DVB tuner and HDMI connections

Hello.

Regarding "Ir eye", you are in right. I have used a "NON plasma protected", but now, i am able to use the original Beovision5 "Ir receiver". I have found the correct wiring.

After many and many hours spending trying to use Beovision5 original screen, i have decided to try using a non B&o monitor. Well, it is a disaster.......

The only 43 tv (able to fit into Bv5 cabinet) now are 4K. Connecting Beosystem3 Dvi out to Television Hdmi in (with a Dvi to Hdmi converter), i have imagine flashing and turning on/off  repeatly. I have tried to change many setting, but no luck.

Then, i have tried to connect Beosystem3 to a Panasonic Tv 4k via VGA (Dvi to Vga converter cable).

No picture at all......

Then, i have tried to connect Beosystem3 to Panasonic Tv 4k via "Dvi to Hdmi converter", -> "Active Hdmi converter to Vga" -> Television.

In this way, no problem, image is stable, no flash, but image "green"......... No way to set colours.....

I am becoming crazy........

Today, i have bought an "Hdmi to Rca" converter. I have now the "Beosystem3" Dvi out going into a simple "Rca" (yellow cable in a simple scart connection).   SAME PROBLEM!!!!!..... It is surely a setting problem.  I have signal going "On/Off"........ flicking continuously. I am sure it is a "source problem" and i am sure i need to set something in Beosystem options.

I would be very  happy in some help about some can do it.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply, but I only saw your post recently. I want to come back on the possibility to connect a BV5 screen to a BS3. I had a similar problem several years ago and if I remember correctly, the solution was to select another B&O screen type in the BS3 screen list. You had to select a BV4-50 HD (even if the screen was a 42"). This was one of the (only) screens who sent out the correct IR on/off RS232 commands for the BV5 screen.
If you still have your BV5 screen, you could give it a try. Please don't forget to power off your BV5 screen and BS3 in order to get the changes remembered.

Hope this helps.
