More of a FYI really for anyone interested.

Due to some decorating being undertaken in my apartment, I've moved the Edge up to my office and it's replaced the BeoSound 2.

What a noticeable difffence already:

- Bass rocks the floor and that's just with the radio. Might have to turn that down
- You can hear a much wider sound. Treble sounds clearer and more detatched
- Vocals clearer

Hi moxxey,

That’s interesting, thank you for sharing.

Just to make sure I have well understood, it is the Edge you have found overall better than the BS2, correct?

Your BS2 should be Mk1, if my memory serves me well.

Thanks.

Olivier

The Edge is a beast. It's 5x the power of the BS2. Doesn't come close. It's genuinely hard to control the bass on the Edge though. It feels more like trying to control the BL5s....and failing.

Luckily the Bang & Olufsen app allows more control than we had in the early days of the BL5's!

Yes Moxxey, interesting points you raise.

I would be intrigued to hear the difference myself in my own home but obviously that's not going to happen now that I've just bought the BeoSound 2. Talking of my own home, there's been a recent development on that front and it looks like I'll be moving back in at the end of June, which is a lot sooner than expected. The good news is that I can get the BeoSound 2 setup properly in situ and give it a good thorough listening test to draw my only conclusions.

Lee posted details of Dawsons Audio in Bournemouth in another thread recently which I explored further. They are currently offering 30% off an Edge. Looks like a great deal but also suggests to me that the Edge is not a popular seller if they are offering it with such a discount. Either way, it is still going to be overkill in my home so even for such a good price it's a product that just wouldn't be fit for purpose in my pad.

Are the differences you mention (particularly the last 2 points) really that noticeable for volumes between 50-60 with both? I mean, really? I'd be pleasantly surprised if you said yes to be honest.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

I recall that you're a big fan of the A9.  In your opinion, how does the Edge compare to the A9?

Nothing priced at over £3000 is going to be a 'popular seller' Simon! Even the A9 is a good £1000 cheaper (and probably, on balance, a better speaker). And there might be varous reasons why a particular model is more heavily discounted. Age is one, but number of them left is another. I really can't imagine too many people buying it for £3200.

I bought my Edge for £1499 ex-demo and this represented fantastic value, but I'd never buy it for £3200!

I still don't get your points on difference at volumes either? Makes no sense. Clarity and width of audio is obvious at most volumes. I've had my BeoSound 2 for over a year and as soon as I listened to the Edge, there's a clear and obvious difference....which was the reason for the thread! But there should be for the price.

Being fair and honest, A9 shades the Edge. Two reasons why:

1) A9 sounds like it has a better stereo split (even though it's a single speaker).

2) The Edge can be *too* bass heavy. Sometimes the bass is so powerful, you can feel the sound through your head. Incredible, but I think they went a little over the top with the power!

I'd choose an A9 over the Edge, but I prefer the design of the Edge over the A9.
