Hi all. I’m Steve and I’ve just been bought a Beocenter 9300 and a Separate turntable for my 60th birthday. I’ve been after a B n O set up for ages. Anyway the system arrived and had not been adequately packed. When I opened the box the glass panels and plastic trim had came out and things didn’t look good. However I put it back together temporarily and all worked fine and the struck a deal with the seller. Well today I did a more permanent repair with double sided tape to fix glass into plastic trim. All looks good but now the touch controls won’t work. The remote works fine and if I remove the glass and touch the little rubber tubes all works fine that way too. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what’s gone wrong . Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Steve

Glass is to far away from inside.

remove the old tape parts from Panel and plastic and then use a very thin double sided tape

Hi. Thanks for quick response. I have cleaned off all the old tape and the new tape I’m sure couldn’t be any thinner. I’ve tried holding the glass without plastic trim to vary the distance from glass to rubber tube thing. All to no avail. Cheers . Steve

If the surface of the glass is any more than 1mm higher than the plastic trim then the foam tape is too thick. When I was doing this work I used industrial grade super glue. The purist were not impressed but it always worked and was much cleaner and quicker to do.

Another vote for super glue (the gel type) - I've done several and they all still work well.  I didn't even bother removing the old tape.

Thanks guys. Gonna have another look today but I really think the tape is the thinnest I could get it’s not even foam just a layer of glue . How does the touch thing work. Is it pressure or is there some kind of contact with the back of the glass and rubber tube thing. Thanks again. Steve

No pressure.
It's a capacitive coupling from you through the glass to the conductive pad on the backside.
In other words, you are a kind of "antenna".

Some tape types are slightly conductive. As are some glues (Araldite until fully set), that could short the touch pads and nothing works.

I have had repairs in where owners had fitted a certain kind of tape (bought on Ebay I believe) that worked fine for some months but then started to
cause problems, intermittent at first and later more and more consistent.
It turned out the tape slowly became conductive (with airs moisture I presume), and in these high impedance areas it doesn't take a lot to disturb operation.
This is more of a problem in Beocords and Beogram CDs, where the touch pads actually go behind the edge of the plastic frame pieces, but if the tape is wide enough it can happen in Beocenters as well.

I use the slow setting Araldite Standard (the white/blue 2 comp.) in a very thin layer for these repairs.

Hi all. Sorry have taken so long to check back in.

After reading Martins post and on further closer inspection I might know what the problem is. I cleaned , carefully I thought, the edges of the glass to remove the adhesive residue with a acetone type cleaner and it looks like I have rubbed the cloth across several of the areas behind where you touch. Kinda smudged the silver stuff across these areas. Could this be my problem. ?

I realise this may be a drastic approach but if I clean the areas with cleaner or even scrape away to make these separate again do you think this will resolve my problem. I had plans to replace the panel anyway as it was damaged in transit. If I can find one. Just thought I could try this first before I spend money on something that may not work anyway. I appreciate any thoughts, views or advice anyone can offer. Thanks again.

Great site by the way. Really interesting. Think I’m hooked. Is there a new members section for introduction.

If you smeared the conductive coating across touchpads, yes, that will definitely cause a problem.

Thanks Martin. Gonna go ahead and try and clean off/ separate the areas then. Kinda got nothing to lose. Everything seems to be working with the remote  and all sounds good. Will try with cleaning product first but if that doesn’t work will scrape away. May not look pretty but will know that if I find a replacement panel it will work. Thanks again. Steve

Thanks Martin and everyone who contributed to my request for help.  After understanding how the touch controls work from Martins information I’ve cleaned in between the rear conductive areas and everything seems to be working fine now. Woo hoo.  I really appreciate the help. Now to set up the turntable that’s just arrived. Wish me luck. Thanks again everyone. Steve
