It does not matter if I like them or not - I simply don't need them.

But if there is a maket for the Beolab 15/16 it is ok with me - as long as they bring money to the company.

They are passive speakers driven by a dedicated Amplifier named 1 - the "new MCL2P".

But not that dedicated that the Amp1 can't be used for other passive speakers.

You can read more in the userguide, that is now online on the B&O homepage.

This is take out of the userguide:

  1. Setup

You can set up the amplifier with a pair of BeoLab 15 and
BeoLab 16, with a pair of BeoLab 15 only, or with a pair of passive speakers. For more information, contact your Bang & Olufsen retailer. With the amplifier, two mounting brackets for 19" rack are enclosed.

I think this look ok Smile

Well, nope... the output of the amp has 3 separate channels, one for the base (going to the BL16), one going to the Tweeter of the BL15 and one going to the mid range of the BL15. It is indeed the construction of an active speaker, just that the amp is distant from the drivers.

From looking at the user guide (as well as the press release and website info)these speakers appear to be Active, not Passive. The picture of the connections show separate connections for tweeter and mid for each BL15 and two connections for the sub (BL16). This would suggest an electronic crossover in the Amplifier 1 module, before the amps (the amplifier 1 is suppose to have six amplifiers in it, based on what I've read). So far, I really like them! I'm anxious to see and hear them in person!

No, I'm sorry - this is absolutely not good enough!!!

If you're introducing a new amplifier capable of more than one application then on the day of release you would release not only pictures (to please the marketing crowd) but also full details of the amplifier specification/capabilities.

So far it has been over a day since the anouncement of the speakers and I've yet to see a picture or any relevant specifications of the amplifier suite that is meant to drive them.

A relevant question might be "what can be selected to drive the amplifiers used to drive the speaker system"? Answer ..........Not Telling!!!

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE in charger and do they have a death wish!!!

@Phil/BeoTom,

well, that is a matter of definition, but..

..,what is important is that the userguide states that the 1 can be used for "passive speakers" too.

A 19" rack?

Almost half a meter. I'm not familiar with racking (servers etc) but this seems awfully big!

Sounds like a Beosound 5 idea, nice small "dummy"  display, huge computer black box that has to be hidden.

I like the look of them.

They would be great in a hotel room or the bedroom, but at the price is way to expensive for me to consider just for the bedroom!

The hotels that would invest that kind of money are few and far apart. In my experience 5-star accommodations rarely even sports a 100 euro iPod dockable stereo.

I think 19 inch is a standard rack size and the amplifier is designed to fit in a standard 19 inch audio component rack.

Just another "of the shelf" parts solution from our beloved brand. Like the Beomaster 5.

I had a active inwall system a decade a go Linn sekrit speakers x5 in wall painted, and 2x linn 5125 amps with active cards.Ideal if you want a descreet surround sound system, but I myself, like b&o speakers to be seen,as the looks are one of their merits over the other brands.

Me too - i love all the BeoLab range and like to see it proudly displayed. And i know in wall active is nothing particularly new as a concept - i saw a Meridian system some time ago. I do wonder though if more people will start to move towards thinner and thinner speakers (and therefore in wall would be highly suited) to match the thinner and thinner tv's people want, and the general idea of having less clutter that seems to be a growing trend. I think this speaker range seems very niche, but i wouldn't be too surprised if it was doing well in a few years time as more people embrace the concept.

Jeez you lot are hard to please!

I think these look amazing, and are ideal for new build high end properties, most of which will have a 19" rack within the design of the house.

I can't wait to hear them, loads of people are fitting in wall speakers in new build and most of them sound awful.  There could be a very big market with builders, architects, interior designers, people building their own homes.

These are not relevant to, or designed for, people who have an existing house who may have previously looked at the existing beolab range.

Come on, you guys have been on this site long enough to know that *every* new product is initially perceived as crap.  I've been hanging out here on and off since around the time the BeoSound 1 was introduced, and I really do not recall any new product that was welcomed with open arms by the "vocal masses" on this website.  All new products are always a) ugly, b) too expensive and c) do not have the exact set of features or number/type of connectors I want so rubbish, rubbish, rubbish and B&O is doomed.  Stick out tongue

An excellent option for new builds, and for me something i'm absolutely going to consider for a shop fit out for my business, good subtle design.
