Dear forum members,
today, after I had not used it for a long time, I have revived my Playmaker (MKI) (unfortunately only for a short time, more of that below).
I checked if its firmware was most recent, updated its network settings, and - having read here in the forum that the combination works well - wanted to try if it indeed works with the BeoLab 5 speakers. That indeed worked well right away. The Playmaker was powered via its original power cable, connected to the BeoLab 5 with the RJ45 to PowerLink cables (white, large diameter, so most likely shielded PowerLink MKII) which came with my BeoLab 3 / Playmaker set.
I then switched off the set and went to dinner. A few minutes later I noticed an extremely strong smell, and quickly found that it originated from the Playmaker. I opened its case, and on the topmost circuit board to which the power cable is connected, what seems to be an interference suppression capacitor (rectangular, grey, labeled 45n X2 on top, 275 W on the side, located on the corner / opposite side of the power cable connector of one of the circuit boards within the Playmaker) had burned down. The smell originating from it is really extreme.
I am wondering what might have caused the defect. Did anybody of you experience this defect as well? Is this possibly a known issue?
Thank you for sharing your experiences in advance.
