I have recently dug my Beo6 out of storage-it came with a BV10-32 I bought for my partner- and wondered if it is still possible to reconfigure it and upgrade system. It was last configured 2012 and is on 3.00a software.B&O tried to update it in 2015/16 I think and managed to totally remove all configurations that were in it. They then said it wouldn't work and seemed to think that was an acceptable response! I've tried to download the configurator tool on my Mac using a parallels virtual windows 10 but getting nowhere and I'm far from technically minded with regard to computers especially! Any thoughts or help would be most welcome.Thank you.
The easiest way to see if the remote is working is to charge it for a few hours then press the red dot button and center button together. You'll see the menus, go to the config menu and you can choose custom or default. If you click default that will give you a simple set of buttons that should control your TV. You can test the remote works before investing time in programming it.
Once you know that it works we can then try and help. I don't suppose you have access to a windows PC for this? It is far easier if you do.
Stoobie
You need to upgrade the remote to the last firmware version, 3.40 if I recall well.If you dont you're likely to find your remote totally unresponsive one day or the other after the batteries go under a certain level.
For that you need to connect your remote to the last Config Tool (CT 6.84) and upload any config file to the remote.Being a Mac guy too, I've tried several way to do that through virtualization, but seems that if any piece of the path is 64 bit, it won't work.So I dinde push ahead and found an old win XP 32bits laptop I use for this purpose only and everything goes better.
Once the remote is updated, you still have to program it.
For every step including those above, you'll find plenty of informations and step by step process on this forum.
Cheers.
You cannot upload a configuration on a Mac using a parallels virtual windows 10 because there is no USB driver that understands "Virtual Windows" In other words you must use the configuration tool on a real Windows PC.
Please see table below for firmware versions
Regards Keith....
Hi folks and thank you for all your advice and words of wisdom.
In order of reply:-
Stoobietoo...I was able to charge it up and see all the screen displays but when I tried the default it didn't display anything at all...no general controls so probably meaning it was caput sadly.
Matador..sadly it has shut down yesterday and now refuses to start up again..plus the dreaded red light is showing at the back which I've read is pretty much a sign that its now paperweight material.
Keith and Beosince...it would have been good to have had the chance to use my old Dell win XP laptop that I dug out of the cupboard yesterday, but the death spiral red light has pre-empted such a move.
I will out of interest take it apart and see if I can coax some life out of the battery by charging from other sources...I read that idea on here somewhere. As I've said I'm not skilled electrically but its worth a try.
Thank you once more for all the thoughts...its heartening to know that beoworld still has such knowledgable folk able to help and also that some folk still have functioning Beo6 remotes despite all the problems that can beset them!
altist:I will out of interest take it apart
Please don't, the red light is more likemy saying it's not dead.Do a search on the forum for the right update procedure and in the meantime, put the remote to charge on its dock.
Will try to point you to the right direction but right now I can't.
As one of the specialist on that matter usually say "99% of the time, they're alive". Weebyx, search for his posts
Don't start taking it apart just yet. If you have your Windows laptop you may save it. I'll look for the posts which describes how. I used for 2 dead Beo 6's.
When I finish work this evening I'll search it out.
Ha, Matador types faster.
Stoobietoo: Ha, Matador types faster.
Funny to see how everybody freaks out he did a mistake! 'No no no no no no, drop the screwdriver on the floor! slowly I wanna see your hands!"
And Weebyx hasn't been around yet!
Beosince98:Contrary to what Keith write in his post, I am able to upload a Beo6 configuration to it using a Mac running Parallels.
I should have been more detailed in my answer. I should have added "if using 32bit"
This is the thread I was thinking of.

Thank you again everyone. I finally managed to dig out my old Dell win xp and download configuration too 6.84. Connected Beo6 but no joy saying it can't do.Tired carefully to take out Beo 6 battery to recharge separately but its one hell of a faff and no joy disconnecting battery connection from rear of remote fascia...tiny connection that service manual gives no help on..Going to have to concede defeat...wish I had managed to start the journey whilst still working as a display and no red light. Paperweight here I come!
Did you follow what was in the thread I put the link. I had two "broken" Beo 6's, one updated easily using this instruction the other had an older battery and caused problems.
First I installed configuration tool 6.00, (as per Weebyx in that link I gave) and made a very simple cinfuguration of beosound 9000 and one set of Beolab 8000 speakers.
Even though the screen was dead as it uploaded it updated the BeoLo on the remote control. I then put it back on to charge for a few hours.
Then with configuration tool 6.84 I connected the remote and it updated. It took a while to write the WiFi update (and I nearly gave up on the first try because it seemed to freeze) then it moved on to write the file and sprang into life.
The first one was fixed first go, but I must have tried about 20 times over a week to do the second one because I knew it could woek and did not want to give up. it seems the older configuration tool migh be the thing to get it going.
One thing I dis notice, it while it was dead it shoews up on my Device Manager as a Beo5 and once it was updated it showed as a Beo6.
Good luck

altist:I’m rather annoyed that the service manual isn’t more precise on how to release the smaller ie battery connection on the board.
Hi,
From memory there's two screws securing a claw which holds the battery and you just need to pull up the connector gently. But if you didn't manage to unplug it, I wouldn't recommend to try anything until you found CT6.00 and follow Stobbietoo's instruction.
As he said, It's not a first try - succeed path. Can not explain the sorcery behind this, but sometimes it works straight on, sometimes it needs several attempts with numerous and frustrating fails.
But as said earlier, your remote is very certainly working, Just give it time.
In the meantime search from thread for members who are using it daily, sur it will give you some courage!
Is this the board you are talking about? (picture from member hafenkapitaen)
Viewing from this angle
Number 1 pulls outs straight up.
Number 2 pulls out to the right (it can be quite tight). It is similar to Number 1 just a different angle
Number 3 can have two versions. One version you can just pull out very carefully. It is a friction fit. The other vesion has a clip you have to lift. If I remember, it is silver metal and runs across the top of the connector. to unlock you go from the blue ribbon side and you lift it carefully and it hinges up. I slip a fingernail between the blue ribbon and the connector.
Number 2 pulled out on my Beo5.

The battery is probably not in its best shape anymore, which will make the job of getting it back to life harder. If you charge it over night, and press std.by and ok to get into the service menu you already have been in, you can see the charge status of the battery under "info".
You need a very good charge for the config tool to do it's job.
To remove the battery, you unscrew the 3 small screws at the base, pull out the rubber base a bit, and with your smallest finger, you press the keyboard upwards from the hole where the base was. Once the keyboard is loose at the bottom, you can use a screwdriver in one of the holes in the alu casing to lift the keyboard free. Once you get the keyboard free, you can disconnect the charger base, and then the battery. Lay the keyboard on the glass without removing the connection(unless there is stress on the flatcable, then you need to disconnect that). Protect the glass with a cloth.
Then you can unscrew 2 screws for the battery holder, and lift up the battery. It is a tight fit, so a little force is required when flipping the battery up.
You can buy a new battery here.
https://www.akkushop.de/search?sSearch=2HHR140
Then you desolder wires from old battery, and connect to the new.
When putting the remote back together, make sure that the wire for the battery, is placed above the battery, towards the screen. There is no room for the wire between the keyboard and battery. You will probably need a few tries.
They keyboard it self just clicks into the remote, but make sure the rubber seal is correct aligned before pressing it down. It needs to fit in the alu-frame where there are small wholes that matches rubber parts. Now connect the black base to the connector through the hole, this will also be hard, since the wire is short.
Now you have a fresh battery, and can charge the battery in the Beo6 over night.
You will then see one of two things.
1. The remote charges the battery, and you will see under "info" a fully charged battery.
2. A completely dead Beo6 that will not turn on, even after a nights charge. This is because of the 3.00FW issue.
If 1, then connect to your 6.84 tool, and see if it detects the remote, make sure that the drivers for the Beo6 under device manager in windows, is pointing to the driver library in the folder where you installed the config tool. You should be able to create a simple configuration with just a Beosound 3000 or something, and then upload the configuration. This will update BeoLo/Firmware/WiFi and last the configuration. But this requires a completely charged battery.
You can experience that it fails, but the display is on and showing "no valid configuration". Then charge the remote again for a few hours, and try again.
If 2, and you cannot get it to connect to 6.84, then you need to use the other versions of the config tool, to try from the beginning with all of them, until one of them can upload a configuration.
Send me a PM, if you face option 2.
