Hi

I cannot get the Eclipse to play UHD 10 bit from the sky Q box..  When I queried this with B&O they replied as follows:

It is not possible with Beovision Eclipse since the HDMI 2.0 input does not support UHD 10 bit full-colour sub-sampling 4:4:4 above 30 FPS, in other words, the TV does not support 4K 60Hz 10 bit input

This rather surprised me, so I consulted the manual and I attach an extract from it entitled HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour, and wondered if this has anything to do with it.  I have the setting switched to on

I am no techie and a lot of this is over my head.. Could someone please explain it all in simple language?

I suppose my basic question is, should I give up ever being able to watch UHD 10 bit with my present setup?

Oh. That’s a bit weird as I thought it would.

I am an owner of the Avant MK1 that want to watch 4K have to play a 4K Blu-ray Disc with the Xbox but change the settings in the Xbox to 8 bit. It’s still 4K. I don’t notice much change in visual but the sound is certainly way better.

Maybe it’s because of the sound centre ? Because all of the connections run through that. I’m not fully sure but I will take a look if I can see a manual that says why

I see on the B&O website they are advertising 24 hour support (what ever that means)

On this page on the eclipse there is a chat function (see link down the bottom)

https://bang-olufsen.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/sections/360007700252-Beovision-Eclipse

Perhaps try there too.

BTW i see that on the support pages they have a better online manual now that doesn’t look like the rubbish one they put up before - it really was poor. Seems better now.

Hi

Me again lol

I found this page, it shows the 10 bit toward the end of the article

I hope i haven’t confused you with all this. Good luck

Thanks for your interest Aussie Michael. A couple of points

1.  I can connect to sky q with UHD 8 bit, just not 10 bit

2.  The quote in my original post is from Bang & Olufsen support, and the message is clear   The Eclipse is not capable of receiving UHD 10 bit with YCbCr 4:4:4.  I have no idea what the latter refers to. Is this how sky q transmits?

3. The attachment to this post is the same extract from the manual you refer to, and the chart seems to lend credence to what B&O says, IF that is how sky q transmits

4. The chart seems to indicate that 10 bit transmission is possible with YCbCr 4:2:0, but I have no idea what the difference is

Can you explain any of this?  What exactly is YCbCr, and the various numbers that come after it?  Under what circumstances can I get UHD 10 bit?

Hi again Aussie Michael. Any thoughts on the YCbCr thing?

Have you purchased your Eclipse early in 2017 or in the first half of 2018? There was a problem in the early sets where 10 bit UHD did not work properly at 60 Hz.

A new DSS board in the Sound Center that fixed the problem was released after and the early sets had to be fixed.

The replacement of the board is done under warranty.

Regards,

Jean

Hi jvezina

That would have been a good reason. Unfortunately I only purchased it in 2020. Any thoughts about the extract from the manual I have attached?
