1. A salesperson once told me the BL50 sounds pretty much just like BL18+19.

Has anyone spent time listening to both and can you comment on the differences in sound between the two?

2. Has anyone put the wooden lamella cover on the front of BL50? Or does this negatively impact sound? I thought the wooden covers fit all three sides and they would probably look great on the front but I haven’t seen this and assume B&O advises against it due to negatively impacting sound. Ideas?

Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote

Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA

Without being a total audiophile person, the time I heard BL50 at my dealer, they sounded lightyears better than a BL18+19 combi. No comparison at all.

As Weebyx said, there is no comparison.

In fact I'm astonished the salesperson said that to you.

I have the 18s + 19, for about 5 years now.

I've heard the 50s - they were mind-blowing by comparison, and have in mind to make the change at some point.

The 18s / 19 are the equivalent of Beolab 20s, in so faros you can make that like for like comparison.

I have both 18’s and 50’s and it’s not even close in terms of anything, bass, treble or mids.

Oak on the front would cover the midranges entirely and severly hamper sound as there are no holes for mid range sound to pass through on the oak covers, the oak covers only have holes for the 10” drivers. So don’t do that!

To further clarify, this was in the context of discussing the BL90s. “The 50s sound like the 18+19 but the 90s sound like the best speakers you’ve ever heard in your life.”

Anyone out there with the wood lamellas on all three sides of their BL50s?

For enough, may have been a lazy comparison.

But its still wrong - the 50's sound at least halfway between an 18s/19 combination and the 90s.

There are those who would argue that the 50's for their price are better value than the 90s. - as an illustration of how wrong the salesmans' comparison was.

I would echo that - IMHO the 50s are the best value for money and are way better than the 18s; however, the 90s are superior if you can cope with the sheer impracticality of them.

BeoSound Core, BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18

1. The sales person must have bad ears.

2. The front and side covers are in different sizes I sm told.

Beovision 7-55 MK1 red, Beolab 10 red. Beolab 50, all black. Beolab 17 broken ice. Beolab transmitter. Apple tv4 and apple express 2.
