A long time ago I was given a Beocord VX5000 VHS deck, which had a broken tension regulator pin. I wanted to record in hi-fi mode but it failed to keep the correct speed.

Fast forward a year and a half: I finally have it on the workbench. Tried to load a tape with great effort and this happens. The music was playing in the background, unedited video Laughing

A simple capacitor/sensor related issue or worse than that?

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

I can't stop laughing

In case you've missed it, there's workshop on these by Die_Bogener in the archived forum. It was spot on for the problems on my VX5000, although I didn't need to go anywhere near the entirety of that (I just replaced some caps on the capstan motor controller and did a general cleanup). Worked fine after that and probably still does, even though my deck has spent about two years unplugged as a display piece under my MX6000.

I had read the workshop threads some time ago - The answer could lie there Laughing

They are just extremely complicated machines when it comes to both electronics and mechanics compared to pretty much any other audio unit I own. I went through my Revox B77 HS during Christmas with no issues, though I had to take all circuit boards out to get to the switch I wanted to change.

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.
