So we started a huge renovation and I finally am preparing my home for a set of Beolab 5. To do so I took my old trusty Beolab 3 (I bought them in 2008 if I remember correctly) and wanted to create a working a working setup. My Beovision 7-32 will move to the Bedroom and to get the Beolab 3 working in the living room I bought a Beosound core and soldered the wires from RJ45 to PowerLink (rev3).
The sound of the Beolab 3 together with the Beosound Core is very nice but the speakers won`t turn off: If I remember correctly the LED on the speakers turn from green to red, when my old beovision 7-32 is switched off. But when I turn the Beosound core to standby the LED of the speakers will still stay on green (thus still switched on). i double checked it with two Beolab 4s - The behavior is the same: The LEDs are always green - never red.
I used this Diagramm to solder/crimp the CAT6-Cable: http://phonocultura.com/images/srv/PowerLink_RJ45_568B_pins.png
I have to admit I changed a little bit at the PowerLink plug: There was a little resistor soldered on, that I removed because I could not see it in the linked image.

So my questions are:
- Is it a problem, that I removed the resistor from the plug
- What is the reason that my beolab 3 won't switch off anymore
- Is this expected behaviour of old Beolab 3s with the Beosound core?
- What Do I have to do to get them to switch off, when no music is playing
- Is it bad for the speakers to be switched on all the time?
if this really bed for the speakers I really don't want to buy Beolab 5 and expect them to get broken after a short time, because they have been switched on all the time...
No it is not normal.
I would suggest you to order a pair of good cables, on soundsheavenly.com for example (when the website is back) it is matter of a few dozen of £/€.
What happens if you switch each BL3 to "line" instead of "L" and "R" or are they on line at the moment?
Just worth a try to see if it does turn off and on
