I recently acquired a Beocord 5500 which looks in excellent condition but does not seem to be working correctly, The drawer opens and closes and the tape functions seem to work properly with the exception of no sound from either channel, and the signal meter stays at full strength with all lights on and not moving at all. Is this a common problem anyone knows about?
Thank you kindly for any help...
Are you still having this problem. I am experiencing the same behavior with my Beocord 5000.
Hello, I ended up taking the unit to a repair place and I was told that the Mute Function was permanently activated, and they could not repair it. I ended up buying another unit on eBay which works fine. I think I paid 80 dollars for it.
Best wishes!
Missing reference voltage would be my first guess.Non-repairable? - Baahhh!!!!Non-skilled would be the correct word.

A stuck mute won't take the VU-meters to max.A missing 8Vref would. From memory the 8Vref is derived from a 14V or 15V, which also feeds amplifiers etc. (Hey, didn't the owner say, that the unit was silent too?....)
Problem is not the repair - it shouldn't be too difficult.Problem is not the cost - that is for the owner to decide.Problem is that the so-called repairer tells the owner, that the Beocord cannot be repaired - and that's rubbish.
