Hello all, I'm just wondering which one you guys thought was the better television, not so much in terms of design but more in terms of picture quality and sound quality? I know the BV9 Full HD is a mono but does it deliver decent enough sound? The room it will be in will not have any outdoor glare issues and will be hooked up to two other speakers (Pentas or possible BL5). I don't really consider the Smart TV technology an essential requirement either, nor 3D.
Cheers.

Wow that's a tough one. I own a BV9, and I love it. If it, God forbid, should break down I would buy a BV11 instead. I'm blown away by the picture and sound of the BV9, but to be honest, it always runs Speaker 3 or Speaker 5 mode, depending on the input. I rarely put it in Speaker 1 mode, but think the mono speaker is pretty powerful. If you plan to run a set of front speakers, I wouldn't put this into consideration at all. I have not had the pleasure of playing with the BV11 yet, but it has some pretty big advantages as it is newer. The display is another technology than the plasma in the BV9, so I think the colours will be sharper and with a pair of front speakers I think sound will be more or less the same. I believe you're able to update PUCs yourself??
If I was on the market looking for a TV today, I would go for the BV11, simply because it's new and it's the BV5/BV9 successor, (at least in my eyes). The smart tv and 3D part I'm not interested in either.
Design wise I prefer the BV9, but you mention this as not being a factor.
Yes I too prefer the design of the BV9, and love its aluminium bezel, but am happy with both designs. It seems its going to come down more to PQ, and unfortunately I haven't had an opportunity to see them both in the same environment. I guess the sheer weight of the BV9 is a bit of an issue as well.
The BV9 weighs 127kg. That was NOT fun to get up to the 3rd floor. My back hurt for 4 days after I got it. Luckily my friend who helped me carry it is tougher and a bit better built me :o)
I moved my BV5 to a rear room when I replaced it with a BV11.
I know the BV9 is just a bit lighter in weight and appearance than the BV5 but it is similar.
I was always extremely happy with the BV5 in terms of its performance and appearance. However, the BV11 has lightened up our room so much I would thoroughly recommend it as the way to go. The downside is that it doesn't have Masterlink, so if you have other Masterlinked equipment in your set-up you are going to have to rethink how you reconfigure everything without the TV.
The BV11 sound system is remarkably good and stands comparison with the Avant and BV5. There are still one two software issues being resolved by B&O. For example, if you have the audio/ radio stand position (in my case hinge) set flat against the wall, the TV, when switching on the radio from standby, starts to move to the video stand position and then moves back to the wall instead of just staying against the wall in the set audio position.

'I know the BV9 is just a bit lighter in weight and appearance than the BV5 but it is similar.'
This is incorrect, must be a typo.

No typo... Lighter in appearance and my impression after moving my BV5 on its two drawer cabinet with STB's. Not likely to be much more than 100kg, and less than a 125kg BV9, so I stand corrected. Bl**dy heavy in comparison with a BV11 was the point.
I would take the BV9, just for it's looks and the ALT.
Too long to list....

Beo4 'til I die!
Evan: bayerische: I would take the BV9, just for it's looks and the ALT. Ditto. BV9 all the way. The stand, the raised bezel, ALT, thickness and substance. All better on the 9. If my TV lives on the floor, who cares if it weighs 127kg? My TV needs to look its best, it will be off quite a lot of the time.

Agreed!
I like the sound and plasma screen of the BV 9. On the downside the design doesn't work that well for me as there's just too much substance to fit into my interior. My TV is in use only a few hours a week and space is my most important furniture, so it's not for me.
I like the BV 11 as well, but wished they made a version with a matt aluminium frame.

Emery paper.
Design wise the BV9 is the best looking TV set ever made, if you can handle the 123kg
Picture wise I'm not that sure, the "older" Panasonic panels weren't that good, the black-level was usually more grey then black and contrast wasn't the best.
The BV9 full HD came with 3 different panels I believe, D9,D10,D11, the biggest difference between them is black-level and contrast.
When running with a pair of front speakers the "center channel" shouldn't be a problem
If you are having a floor standing set,It would be the 9 everytime,no benefit in thin 11 then. Also if you have powerful front speakers, the 9 again due to a better center speaker.Remeber the 9 was a flagship tv,unlike bv 11 which is middle of the range,so corners have been cut.
Also prefer the softer smoother image of the bv9,b&o big flagship tvs are plasma,as they are best for big screen movie and sport watching,in a darker room. Each technology has pros and cons and bv7-55 has one of the best images out their,I would compare that more with the bv9,not the 11 as original thread.
just my 2 cents
Quite interesting that most prefer the BV9, I appreciate everyone's input here. Given It's age it really does show that you don't have to upgrade so constantly over the last few years as we saw a decade ago. 4K panels will be interesting though.
i've heard Tue call the BV11 it's 'flagship' television, contrary to its positioning in the line-up...i suppose it's their flagship for versatility in terms of the technical options it provides.
Had a demo of the BV11, PQ in HD is decent, SD content was average and sound quality was acceptable to me, i think its a good entertainment hub and if that means I can ditch my sound system I think I might lean towards buying one.
I have a BeoVision 4-50. It's pretty much the same as the BV9
I would probably take the BV 11 purely for the fact that it's the newer technology, with smart TV capabilities.
I also like that the BV 11 design isn't as heavy or thick ! Not to say that the BV9 is ugly, it's beautiful, just getting a bit older.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
At risk of repetition, the BV11, in my case, has freed up a lot of space in comparison with a BV5 on a two drawer stand. The BV5, with our particular room layout, had to be partially across a corner, and the drawer unit pushed it even further into the room. The BV11 on a wall hinge looks really elegant and has freed-up floor space.
As I mentioned elsewhere there are still some software issues with the BV11 being resolved linked to movement to audio and tv stand positions from standby. Also, the radio static screen information that is meant to automatically screen mute after a minute or two sometimes comes back on and stays on depending on which buttons you have touched (now resolved for volume controls). In relation to this I was concerned about screen burn, but my dealer tells me that screen burn is not an issue at all with the BV11, unlike plasma.
The BV11 has very deep black backgrounds, in my opinion possibly blacker than the BV5.
The BV5 and 9's are TV's with a great physical presence when turned off. The BV11 is a picture on the wall. Not an easy choice, but I've still got my SD BV5 giving great service in another room and have no regrets about getting the BV11.
