I just acquired an old 1979 ADS/Braun R1 receiver and was curious to hear how it sounded. I have a pair of 4000s and was looking for recommendations for the correct speaker wire/connector to get. The back of the Receiver has the old push button-insert bare wire, connection and the 4000s have the 7 pin Din and an RCA input.

Thoughts?

A receiver normally has built-in amps - and you connect passive speakers there.

The BL4000’s are active speakers with their oen amps built-in.

For that to succeeed you’d have to use some kind of attenuated converter kit.

See here: http://www.soundsheavenly.com/faq/question/can-use-beolab-speakers-av-amplifier-receiver-without-pre-sockets-get-surround-sound/

You can get further advice from Steve at Sounds Heavenly.....but bear in mind that his shop is unreachable at the moment., so be patient.

Yes indeed, you can do this, but you will need to use screened cable, and as mentioned earlier, some sort of attenuation kit to reduce the signal at the loudspeaker outputs of your amplifier. Then connect via the "line" input of each BL4000,so that the speaker power's up and down automatically with signal.

You can probably get a suitable kit from a car audio specialist over there?

They often use slave amplifier's to boost the level in car's to  produce those three standard volume setting's-loud-louder and brain damage, that seem to be essential?
