Hi Beoworlders,

If the first half of 2020 has been a bit disappointing, here are some reasons why the next 12 months are looking good for B&O fans! https://youtu.be/3W7wqs-R5JQ

To be fair, the first 20% of this century has been far less than disappointing. They are on their 4th CEO, just lost their Chairman, and basically borrowed money from their shareholders to stay alive. The global economy is on a teeter-totter, and there is a pandemic with no cure and 6 months before a vaccine is even possible. Let them eat cake.

Thanks guys,

OK, so maybe the World's problems won't get solved here, but if B&O make it through to their 95th birthday then that is a good thing (which is looking more likely than it did a month ago).......I think we all need a bit of good news right now?

Kind regards, Steve.

I'll echo what Steve says.  A new store is opening - as opposed to another one closing... which is good news.

I've always wanted B&O to make it to 100 Years. I sincerely hope they do.

I'd like to see that too, even if their product line is full of things I no longer desire, the longevity would be nice to see. One of the older companies over here is Klipsch, which dates to 1946. Old firms like RCA and such are much, much changed even if the name is still around, which RCA isn't but it's an example, not many of the old marques left alive. McIntosh dates to 1949, so not many as old as B&O.

Since when do companies with confidence work in the shadows and not spread their optimism and good cheer with other than large-scale customers and insiders? Give me a break, please. I am the guy who owns 3 x Essence 1 that only work because of the graciousness of a BeoWorlder, and an Avant 1 that I wonder will crap out to the point I cannot justify repairing. I am glad you some can afford new fabulous kit, but that isn't my world.

And, btw, mocking a customer about not being able to solve "the world's problems" so feel good about this new programme, doesn't help a bit.

There is nothing wrong with having expectations and then being disappointed about, but ok with, companies going away because they no longer perform as well as their competitors. Look around.

Since basically always, when have they ever been forthcoming about future/unreleased products?

I don't know why your Essence's aren't working, first time hearing about it. What's going on with them and is your local dealer not able to help at all?

If you are implying Steve is mocking you, I take exception to that. I am 100% sure you're reading something in to that that isn't there.

There's no need to be this salty with either or us, neither of us works for B&O, jeez.

I'm curious what they mean with "We were adversely impacted by higher-than-expected sales from unauthorised channels". Does this mean that factories making B&O products sell them into the grey market? Or dealerships selling products to unlicensed companies that undercut the regular pricing?

I'm really looking forward to the new Bespoke and "B&O Classics" offerings that are announced!

Surely this is dealers selling through third parties? A factory can't sell their client's products. Effectively that would be stealing.

My guess is that they mean due to covid-19 and dealers being closed, they have sold their stock (or stock they can get hold of) via other non-authorized sources, to make sure they can make some revenue!

I won't lie, I've bought more B&O kit in the last 3 months - partly because of the above - than the previous 3 years!

Remember, most dealers don't sell online. From March through July many of them were closed. How do they make money in this period?

But how can a company complain about sales (authorized or otherwise)?

To be fair I think poodleboy has a point. B&O has gone through a period of late where they basically didn't seem to have an integrated, planned out approach to product development but seemed to be throwing things against the wall to see if they stick. This has resulted in a lot of orphaned products, with no support, and a lot of buggy and poorly designed/performing products (Playmaker anyone? Moment?). B&O has kind of been thrashing around trying to get their feet under them again, and the result (which is apparent if you read online reviews) is a lot of dissatisfied and frustrated customers.

I read over the weekend that the US is in such a bad way at the moment (in certain areas) that even if Florida flattens the curve from September, by the time they reach current EU levels, the US<>EU flight ban will remain in place until 2021 as the EU claim other countries need equal or lower infection rates Surprise

This is making it so hard to do business. I can go Germany tomorrow if I liked, but I need to get to the States. I can't see this happening this year. What a mess.

So what is this about classics?  Does anyone own stock in B&O?  It sure is low.  Do shareholders get discounts?  Do shareholders get any say in product development?  I mean, it just seems like the product line has dropped off.  Too many options.  Too little time on the shelves for some products.  Too little focus on audiophiles with too few connection options. I know that it is a " lifestyle brand " but I feel like for a long time their customers chose their products for the sound.  Not the lifestyle.

I agree.  Wouldn't it be cool to see less technology in each speaker?  I mean, sometimes I want to add a pair of speakers to my setup, not invest in a whole new system that basically requires a 40k TV.  Nobody should spend more than 3k on a TV considering how fast technology moves.  What about offloading some tech?  Having motors and complications just reduces longevity and leads to more service calls.  Like the posts on Beolab 5 having recent issues due to some boards going.  Remember passive speakers with speaker binding posts?  CD players?  A lot of people who love the sound of B&O still play CDs.  I don't need 5 different types of headphones and 15 different types of little portable speakers.  Also, too much is made in China.

Hi Steve,

In order for B&O to Strive again, they got to Start doing Products that works! We All wants to Support them, but we don’t want to throw our Money away. Look at the Moment and it Cost, if you know Software is not their Thing, Partner with Someone who can help to get the System running effectively! They were able to Partner with LG for BeoVisions, why not try that with Apple, Microsoft and others to get things done Right?

I know, most B&O Buyers, really don’t care the Cost of the Products, but we were all bought into the Quality of their Products!

Apple why would they?

Microsoft, I have a hard time finding software they have made that are flawless, the same with Google.

Software is hard, and the Moment was rubbish,

But their latest products are pretty stable, never had an issue with my Eclipse, also the Avant MK 1 went without issues.

Lets see with the Beoremote HALO, hopefully it will follow the stable software they have had in recent years.

Beovision Harmony 77" 2nd Gen, Beolab 5, Beolab 17, Beosound 1, Beoplay M3, Beoplay Portal, Beoplay Earset, Beoliving Intelligence

I agree, the software on their recent products is close to flawless in my experience. I had switched from B&O to all Sonos a few years ago and am back to almost all B&O. Most of it is built around their new products. Also the newer products are priced more competitively.

B&O in my life 😊:

  • Beolab 8002 + Beolab 2 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Office)
  • Beolab 6000 + Beolab 11 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Bedroom)
  • Beoplay A9 Mk2 (Living Room)
  • Beosound 1 with wireless dock (Portable)
  • Beosound Balance (Dining)
  • Beoplay H95 (Focused listening, travel)
  • Beoplay H9 (3rd gen) (retired)
  • Beoplay P6 (Portable)
  • Beotime wall clock (hallway entrance)
  • BMW X5 50i with B&O Audio Package (Commute/drive)

What equivalent products did you choose?  If you're willing to list 'em all, of course.  There are certain models that don't translate well, especially in whole-house situations where low-voltage wiring is in place for speakers but getting AC at the speaker location is tough.  Also, was your choice specifically sound-quality-based?  With an (approximately) 4:1 to 6:1 price difference to (seemingly) equivalent products, decoration aspects must count, a lot.  Definitely curious to see your "translation table"!

Couldn't agree more. I can't stand Google and think they are the biggest mess currently in technology. They haven't got a clue what direction they are going and just seem to be buying companies out with their financial buying power with no thought about the end customer experience. I wish they would stick to search engines and do what they do best. Their attempts at other software are terrible. Chrome OS is the biggest disaster design wise I've ever seen; Nest used to be brilliant - then along come Google ho buy it and succeed in making it worse (for example, 2 apps needed now instead of one - Nest & Google Home). Android is a terrible long winded experience to find and change settings with God knows how many sub-menus you have to keep clicking to carry out the simplest of tasks and their design team overall both for physical products and user interface development is abysmal.

I wish B&O would stick with what they are good at, which IS design; so I will disagree with a separate post above that suggests most people buy B&O for the sound quality as I never have. My choice for B&O has always been and will always be, design first. Of course I want the sound (and picture where relevant) to be of a high quality but those are not the primary reasons that I came to the brand or stay loyal to it.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.
