3.5mm to powerlink cable adapter

Hi there,

Probably a silly question that has been answered many times before, but I have just purchased some beolab 9 speakers and want to be able to connect it to a non-b&o source via 3.5mm jack. I almost purchased a cable for this but noticed that some of the cables use 5 din and some 7 din. I also understand that mk 3 powerlink uses 8 din, so my question is what is the best cable to get? Also, in relation to this question, if I was to get a 7 din cable, would I then need to use a mk2 powerlink cable between the speakers? 

Just want to make sure before I end up purchasing cables.

Hi Henry,

Welcome to Beoworld! It is essential to use correctly wired 7 pin or 8 pin plugs as your Beolab 9 speakers must have pin 7 of the plug connected or you will get major noise problems.  You don't need a cable between the two speakers, the correct cable should split out to link directly to both speakers:-

Please set both speakers to "Line" mode using the small switch next to the input sockets.

Hi Steve, 

Thank you for your fast response and I now understand the pins, thanks for that! With regards to the wiring, I don't know if it is possible, but would it work to have a 3.5mm to single 7pin dim and then use the output for a mk2/3 cable to connect the first speaker to the second speaker? It might not be the right solution, but I'm just trying to work out if this is an option at all?

Hi Henry,

Sorry but you won't get stereo sound if you link to one speaker and then run a Powerlink cable between the two speakers - this way, both speakers would play the left channel audio only.  Please use the correct cable (direct to both speakers) for stereo sound, it would be a shame to spoil the sound of these superb speakers just for the sake of the wrong cable.
