Following this Beomaster 6500 slight overhaul and while I do have plans to re-cap the unit clean up the entire BS6500 I'm just wondering if I missed out something to get standard external speakers to work (a pair of Dali). If they're connected to Speaker Pair 1 it's totally silent, nothing nada. When I connected them as Speaker Pair 2 I did get click noise from the speakers so a bit more of reaction there. Also, when connecting headphone I need to turn up the audio really high to hear something faintly in the background.
Connecting the BM6500 to a 1611 I get audio out via ML to a BL2000; so it clearly works and I've tested to play from both CD and BG. Tape I haven't tried yet since I it won't open; so on the list to fix.
But, for now I just want to understand if I missed out some magic button or something :-) or if it's a bad muting relay?
If it's also very faint on the headphones jack, it sounds like the entire unit is muted. What line are you listening to? Radio?
When pressing the Mute button quickly I hear relay clicking but it won't make any difference and also Timer Off is indicated so with that it should work from Speaker 1 connection. To my understanding is that even if Timer mute was on it wouldn't have any effect if the speakers would be connected to Speaker 2 connection. Also, when headphones connected I need to turn up the volume to max to hear it faint. The source tested has been both CD and BG.
Last time the BeoMaster was tested with speakers (Redline) was last summer; so have been working. So any other obvious that can be missed? Also, I'm using this plug to connect the speakers:
You could try to remove the timer to see if it has an effect: Hold Program/Step on the front of the BM and at the same time click and holdt Mute. This should turn off Timer in the display.
Also - is the dummy plug in the line in/out on the back? Otherwise your BM will not work.
Ah, thought that was for 5500 series and below but checking now I see that the dummy plug is missing from the line in/out. So standard plug then but which pins is that should be shorted for this dummy plug? Found image of a blinding plug:
And to the above plug it was ref. to the following "You need a DIN plug with just pins 1, 3, 4 and 5 present. Then simply solder 'jumpers' between pins 1 and 3, and 4 and 5 respectively to end up with the connections as shown above.".

Glad to help. Yes, you need to make a jump wire between the input and the output pins.
Just to confirm, but after this morning soldering a DIN 5-contact with jump wires everything worked fine with the BM.

If you want the Timer Off to not be lit all the time, you can press Program/Step and the Mute relay on each side of the Beomaster at the same time.
Yes, but it seems go back to this settings every time I've pulled the power cords; so either it's default settings or it's not saving the settings when changed. Some of the plastic feet has fallen of so needs to get them replaced on the BM and CD. But, Dillen indicated that he looking into replicating them. So crossing my fingers that it will materialize.
There is a backup battery inside that may need to be changed.
Most likely and on the todo list to fix. But, got to say it's quite pleasant playing my old cassettes from the eighties and nineties and got to say I'm quite surprised how well it plays and sounds
