Hi all, I am a novice with B&O so go gently please. I bought a used Beoplay V1 40 and picked it up yesterday. The previous owners, who bought it new, said they didn't use it to watch FTA TV, just apple TV, radio, etc.I connected with ethernet cable and plugged in a digital antenna, when I turned it on it powers up with the beoplay emblem and searches but turns off after 30 seconds, showing, unknown service 0/TV. The DTV on Beo4 brings up available apps. I can't navigate at all even when I go to the menu. I made sure the beo4 was in Mode 1, checked the IR lights with my iphone, I reset the Beo4 to factory settings, read every manual I could find, read a few posts on this site but couldn't find a solution. There seems to be a few tricks to learn with Beo4 remotes and everything isn't necessarily available online. I tried using 0-9 buttons without success. I hope its something simple I can do with the remote otherwise the problem is with the TV which will be expensive and hard to get repaired because of access. I have posted some photos which may help.I tried to rotate photos but couldn't get it right, sorry.

All menu navigation on the V1 has to be done with the little joystick in the center of the arrow keys on the BEO4 if you are not aware of that.

Hi there,

As said already check if you have the correct Beo4 remote with the navigation button in the middle.

If not, than you should be fine with the correct one.

If you have correct Beo4, please download the B&O app, add your V1 and try if you can navigate with the remote function within the app. If this works, then the ir receiver in the V1 might be broken. I had this with my V1 and it needed a new PCB module. That might be an expensive fix so hopefully this does not apply to you.

Hope this helps.

I made a mistake when setting up my V1... the fta digital Ariel isn’t a standard connector you would get on a normal tv, it’s threaded and I think labelled as ‘sat’ In the instructions, try an f type connector in that slot and see if you get service. Drive me mad for day’s thinking it wasn’t going to work.

Thanks James, I'm using the right F adapter coaxial converter.

Thanks for your advice. The beo4 pictured came with the TV and had the original booklet from new. Is the toggle section the raised black diamond part with the button in the middle? This is the later model version type 1710.

Hey thanks for suggesting the app. I downloaded it and I could use it to navigate the different menus. I still can't get TV though. Now I have to assume the PCB module needs replacing. Seller probably knew this and still took my money. I'll be having words with him,

Do I understand correctly that you can use the beo4 now and select the menu’s on the tv?

You cannot get tv broadcasts? Not sure what system you use in your country. Where I live, a hd decoder is needed to get broadcasts on the tv. I use a CI+ card directly in the tv. You can also use a settop box on a hdmi port.

My remark was about the beo4 not responding, notting to do with the tv broadcasts.

Thanks, beo4 still isn't able to navigate the menus. i have to use the app on my phone. I'm in Australia, this TV has no common interface for chips/cards, just a hole where they should be. No satellite socket either, it has a sticker covering the hole, looks like the factory supplied it that way. Isn't there a HD digital TV tuner built into this TV?

Can’t say exactly about your version.

But commonly the V1’s have a digital C and T(2) tuner built-in. The socket for the antenna is of the f-connector type. There are versions with a satelite tuners, they are rare though.

The slot, that you see there, are for different CA modules depending on your provider - you must use the aquired module and the card for unlocking the channels, if that is how you watch tv. The tuner is freeview!
So depending on your provider, you should be able to watch tv.

However, you must do a search first - and I don’t know if that is possible using the app (never tried that).

The remote must definitely be in Mode 1 - please assure!

Doesn’t the tv react on any push of a button (e.g. menu) when activated with the app?

Thanks MM, most all TV's here are freeview, I don't know of anyone who uses a card with a module. When i push TV on the remote I get the message in the above photo,(Unkown service etc.) for about 5 seconds then the screen goes black. Nothing changed on the TV screen  when I used the app to navigate the menus which appeared on the TV screen. I will check a few more things in the morning as it is late here, 1.12 am and I need to sleep. Thanks for your input, I'll post again if anything changes. Chris.

Chris, you say that you “reset the Beo4 to factory settings”.

If you haven’t already done so, I suggest that you do the same with the V1 TV.

It might then attempt to walk you through the setup process, or you could follow the set-up process in the user guide.

I would reset it with everything disconnected except power, Ethernet and aerial cable.

Usually you get that message, when the tv already was tuned and you receive nothing.

The last viewed station will always be displayed, but when there is nothing, you get that message.

When it reacts to the TV button, it should be ok.

Have you tried to push the MENU button???

As Lawrence already wrote, it is a good idea to reset the tv, when you get it already configured for another user.

Wow, I have found the solution and now have about 35 free to air channels and I am using the beo4 remote correctly. I didn't understand how the toggle could be on the centre button, which I will now call the nipple. You have to use a fingernail to use it with no downward pressure. I spoke to the seller who ran me through the proper set-up procedure. I had to go to inputs and turn on terrestrial then back to reinstall channels, select terrestrial and it started searching for channels. I couldn't be happier. Thanks to everyone who replied, Many minds are better than one. Bye for now, i have to B&O.
