Hi guys, I have a beogram 3500 record deck fitted with a mmc4 cartridge which has a couple of issues which i hope you can help me with. The first problem is I am getting distortion in the left channel. The tracking was initially set at 1.2 I’ve slowly increased this to 1.4 this has stopped the distortion, I don’t think this can be right as I’m concerned it might damage the cartridge or is it already damaged or is there another problem. The second problem is there is a scraping noise coming from the platter when playing an LP this happens at the end of the record, Just before the arm raises it doesn’t happen if I play a 7” single, the 3 transit screws are all loose. Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated . Mark
I had the scraping noise at the end of a record with my BG6500. Investigation confirmed that the LP was at fault because the centre hole was not central, hence the edge of the record rubbed the arm mechanism as it moves across before returning to the side. I only have one vinyl album, so have not yet tested with another LP.
Otherwise check your turntable height adjustment - this is all explained in the service manual, and I think it needs to be done with the arm towards the centre.
Sorry can't help with the MMC.
Hi Guy, thank you for your reply and thank you for your suggestions I will try and find a manual and check the height, I’m pretty sure its the platter that’s catching on something, once again thank you. Mark
I thought mine was the platter and had to get right down with a torch to observe the scraping!

Ok thank you I managed to find a manual on line I think it’s from an American site, it looks like 3 springs and screws once again thanks for your input
