My first post and I hope someone may be able to help.I have recently purchased a B&O Beogram 3000, 1985-87 together with a Beomaster 3000 and a Beochord 2000.The Beochord needed new belts which I purchased from Dillen (Martin). The instructions Martin sent were perfect, all units have been working well until today :-(The Beogram 3000 has decided not to lower the tone arm onto the record, it lines up fine, lowers, raises straight away as it makes contact with
the record then returns to the rest position .I have looked through the forum regarding tone arms but cannot find an answer to this particular problem ,Can anyone help?Keith.

Well, the needle falls off the edge of the record for a start.Adjust the excentric at the foot of the carriage for a set-down point about 1-2mm more left.
If it actually lands within the lead-in groove range and still falls off, replace the cartridge or have it retip'ed.

The cartridge i am using is a damaged one with no tip.
while the deck is not working i have taken out my good cartridge to save any damage.
Could it be one of the cams ? the one that controls the tone arm rotates all the way round in one cycle raising and lifting the tone arm all in one
operation,should it stop once the tone arm makes contact with the record ?
would a video help?
Yes, half a turn to lower, next half turn to raise..Check for oxidation in the microswitches, There are two or three of them in there. it's very common to see ifthe deck stood unused for a long time.

I have cleaned all the micro switches all seem to be working well.
However the tone arm cam wheel is still turning all the way round so the arm lowers and raises all in one operation.
Any more ideas and thanks for your help.
Can you tell if it gets activated by the solenoid ?Or if the "flying gear" on top of the cam wheel binds ?

yes it looks as if the solenoid is working

I have been wondering about this it does seem not to move, but it is lose on top of the cam should it catch on to something?

Any one have any more ideas?
The piston does NOT appear to be moving all the way. I had one exactly with this problem once.
Disassemble it, according to the instructions here

You have saved a Beogram :-)
before I undertook the repair you have suggested I had another look at the piston.
It had a repair already and the Plastic case had been left a little rough so I lightly sanded the plastic case around the old repair then
used silicon spray inside the solenoid and on the piston, let it dry and did it again.
when I reassembled the unit it worked perfectly :-)
if at a later date the piston fails I'll know what to do
