Did you try the store locator on the website of B&O?

http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/store-locator

On this way I found three stores in Chicago, but non in Milwaukee.

Depending on the age of the system, you might be better off or even have to send it out to an independent (but perhaps authorized) repair shop. In my experience, stores are not really the best places for repair of older equipment. You should probably try the local stores first.

Makes sense and will do so. Ouch! Did you really have to bring up the issue of the age of the system? Bought it myself in 1985. ; )

Tks for the heads up Pete. Will give it a shot and hope that 1) I'll find someone old enough to know what are these little plastic boxes with a brown ribbon inside that you need to pop in the machine to have sound, 2) that he/she will really know what do and 3) Will not ask for an arm, a leg, and my first-born to cover the cost of repairs... Ps. Biker? What kind of bike, just out of curiosity from someone who lives in Milwaukee, birthplace of The Hog...

Spiffy! Thanks for sharing though I don't think I'd go more than 20 meters on a thing like that... This really is manpower, but for my part, I'll stick to horse-power... Cheers.

Is it an old tape player that you want to get repaired? I would try these guys, they have done a fine job for me. Shipping can add up, but it may be worth it.

You can easily buy used Beocords on Craigslist & eBay for under $100 due to low demand - probably less than it would cost to repair yours.  Your local B&O-authorized repair center is Path Electronics in Arlington Heights.  Call them and see if they'll give you a free repair estimate.

Will try to revive my old machine even if there are some available . EBay got only one listed and it' nowhere near as good as mine. Will check Path Electronicsl as to free estimate, I'd love that but is there anything free left on this planet? Thks.

The 2 repair shops here in NYC each charge $75 for an estimate, which is deductable from the cost of the repair if you proceed.  They claim that they have to 'diagnose' the problem, which takes time - hence the fee.  This is one of the reasons I ship my items for repair to Atlantic Systems in MA - free estimates (not to mention cheaper cost of repair).

Last time I checked, - Atlantic Systems required one to complete an online repair form, and supply a check for $40 for each component to be diagnosed/repaired. More than fair. Andeccellent work to boot!
