Hi all,

Slowly setting up the multiroom system after Masterlink for 20 years.

I have an issue with the speakers powering off when they are attached to a Core.

To start with I have the outdoor passive speakers attached to a Beolink Passive. Attached to this via Powerlink is an Essence 2 with the correct cable (6271225). It all powers up and works as it should and the Passive turns off when the Essence turns off. All good.

If I replace the Essence with a Core the Passive will turn on and do it’s thing however it will not power down when I put the Core into standby. The Passive remains on. I have tested it on 2 Cores and they both do the same thing.

Next issue I have is that I have a pair of Beolab 5000 panel speakers in the bedroom. If I use the Essence the speakers work as they always have. They turn on and turn off when the Essence is activated or put into standby. Again if I attach a Core they will turn on but when I go to turn the Core to standby the speakers sound like they have powered down but the display is still backlit and the red standby lights don”t come on.

I understand that the source information won’t display on the 5000’s with the source detail with either the Essence or Core and I’m not worried about that. Having the display lit constantly especially at night in a bedroom is not that good. Yes it’s fine if they speakers are being used. Not that good if they aren’t.

Is there some setting that I need to activate on the Core to get it to power down the speakers fully or do I need some type of different cable?

I have both an Essence and a Core. I am not sure what the issue could be. Hopefully someone here here who knows much more than me will be able to help. I can not think of a reason for this problem.

Hi Razlaw,

It is doing my head in as I can’t think of a reason why either.

I might have wait and try and borrow another Core from the dealer to test. Unfortunately Melbourne is under level 4 lockdown so most retail is closed under the middle of September (at least).

Next thing to tackle is the ML/NL converter. Trying to get sound from a Core attached to the converter to come through the speakers attached to a BV10.

Hopefully when I get everything going it will all just work.....

I have gone through all of the settings on my Core trying to find something. These are both long shots, but as no solution is presenting itself, nothing to lose by trying a long shot. Maybe try changing to a different speaker model in the settings? Maybe change the power saving setting from how it is set now to the other option?

I’ll give it a go in the weekend. Have to get the ladder out to get back into the roof space and see if the Passive is fully turning off.

Will keep you posted

Have received a response from B&O and it appears the cable will need a slight rewire when using the Core.

I have to wait until our Service Centre comes out of lockdown to get the new cable. Hoping this solves the problem.

Thanks for your help on this Razlaw.

Next challenge is getting the ML/NL converter programmed so the speakers attached to a BV10 play from a Core attached to the converter
