Hi - a few years back I found a lovely, almost mint looking Beogram that somebody had put on the trash cans near my apartment. It even included a nice MMC 20EN cartridge. I quickly tested it back in my living room - and I immediately realised why it was discarded: the motor is not running. I foolishly connected the motor to the other socket - which I now know was supposed to be for an LED of sorts - as far as I remember the motor did speed up for a few seconds before the fuse blew.
I then put it in the basement. And now recently I have pulled it out, replaced the fuse and there is a bit of life in the deck. Pressing Play, the arm moves across the platter and returns. The bad news:
1) Motor is not spinning, it seems to be vibrating a bit so maybe it is just the bearings that need oil infused?
2) Stop is not working
3) There is no light in the panel for 33 RPM
4) Pressing 45 changes to the 45 setting and there is light, however, pressing the 33 RPM button - nothing happens
Any ideas on where to start?
An update:
The metal plates under the buttons were completely oxidised. I gave them a thorough rub with a fiber pen and a bit of sandpaper in between the plates and the metal bridges - they probably have a name. The great thing is that Stop and 33 RPM buttons now work :-)
Now, on to the motor.
Hi FilipI renovated a 4002 myself - and im not complete done.....I recommend starting with reading in this forum, beolover.com and also this one…http://www.condoraudio.com/wp-content/uploads/Projects/BeoGram-4002-6000-Turntable-Restoration-Repair.pdfAfter reading a careful cleaning and some lubrication - and then step by step fixing things, starting with the motor.....sounds like it should be cleaned and lubrication.In the 400X all the function are dependend on each other…...so to me its a step by step thing - the stop might work when the motor/platter is working…Good luck
Thanks. I am very used to my Beogram 4000 and have made a few repairs on that one during the years, like exchanging the big caps as they were leaking, lubricated parts, exchanging bulbs etc. However, the 4004 is rather different so I think there is a learning curve. But I will get the bearings infused with oil and see if that makes a difference.
