Hi All,

Quick post to note I have just got my hands on a Beogram 3000, Beolab 5000, pair of Beovox 3800's, Headphone box and tuner.....even have all the manuals, recipts, test reports etc.

B&O really knew how to producer high end audio equipment!

Beogram is running a bit slow and has a massive AC hum, however by the look of it the RCA outputs aren't grounded correctly vs the DIN socket that used to be there, need to replace that......and service the motor and belts etc.

I couldn't get her to play @ 45 last night so something not quite right, doesn't seen to change from 33 (well a little less than 33 as the styrations show, but not surprised for the age.....)

Registered on here as I am BOUND to be asking questions and advice from those in the know!!!

A need for a thorough service, cleaning and lubrication would come as no surprise.

New correct belt and idler wheel here.

Congratulations on your setup,you have really grabbed some of the best b&o ever made.

Is your beogram 3000 a thorens or an acoustical?

If you have a sp8-9 pickup you should consider getting it refurbished and fitted with a shibata .

i have it on my sp8-9 an i can now hear details that i could not hear before.

Thanks Dillen, been looking up the job, unsure where I will be getting a vacuum unit from for loading the brass bearings, that’s one component begging to be a different material.....Do need a new belt for sure. I had to cut and glue the current one to take out the slack and just check she was working as intended (auto movement etc) seems to most of the time but there are some where it just does nothing. Idler has deffo dried out, rubber is not as tacky as it should be.

square4, I'm not sure how to tell the version.....is there an obvious indicator? New to this game!

Current pickup is an 'Elliptical diamond SP12' it works, but not sure how well till it's amplified correctly.

There are many Beogram 3000s! They are all pretty good so you will have a good deck. The usual one is the radial B&O 3000. This is the most likely as it came with an SP12 cartridge. A good automatic deck with reasonable suspension. There were two other radial 3000s but these are rare and the motor units are not made by B&O. The most sought after is the 3000 Thorens which is a Thorens 124 Mk II with a B&O arm. Excellent deck but there is not the same suspension so a good wall mount is best. The unusual version is the 3000 Acoustical which uses a Dutch made motor unit. Not as high spec as the Thorens though interestingly does use the same actual motor. I did have one as well as one of each of the others but kept the Thorens as it had been rebuilt by the excellent Frede of Classic audio in Veno who is the person to go to for the Beolab 5000 system.

Beovox 3800s are also unusual and normally only seen in the UK as they were designed to avoid purchase tax as the size of the woofer meant they were classified as professional equipment! The stands are wonderful if you have them - very elegant!
