I have used my Beovox M100-2s with loads of different amplifiers in the past and really like the valve sound but they are never powerful enough or produce too much bass or I end up with humming through the speakers. I want to just be able to press Play and hear music. So I used them for a while with a beolink passive - this sounded good but seemed to have trouble driving them.

I read a lot of reviews about the Quad 303 and bought a serviced/recapped one - it arrived today and I wired it up using a beolink active instead of the passive - wow, this thing can finally drive my speakers - bass is powerful but not boomy and seems different, mids are very clear and treble is defined - in fact they sounded good before but now seem to be on another level. I'm not sure how to describe the sound it's powerful, clear and punchy. Anyway, I'd recommend a 303 to anyone having trouble driving them.

The rest of the system is a Yamaha Streamer which is fed from tape out to a beolink converter with a lintronic box to control it via Beo4 and the link system. I have a Linn turntable with Rega arm, cartridge and phono stage. It is all linked to Beolink Passives in the sitting room and kitchen. I think I may finally have found my ideal system!

Anyway, thought I would share this and interested in what other people are driving their M100's or similar with?

For years I had a pair of MS150s driven by a Quad 405-2. Sublime... Regretted selling them as soon as I parted with them. A pair of Beolab 9s finally cured the pining....

Cheers

Try a Beomaster 4400 and be impressed.

I also use a 303... with ESL 57’s!

Hi - I did have a 4400 at one time and it was very good, for me I preferred the BM6000 (80's) versions but the volume control went wrong on it. The 303 is the best I have tried yet and will last a while - maybe I should listen to BL9's but then I will get too tempted.

I've never heard the ESL57s but have always wanted a pair if I have somewhere big enough one day. I read that they need a lot of space around them and that the bass wasn't good? but then it's all subjective. I'd love a pair hooked up through the 303 and BL Active using a Beo4 to control them.

The 4400 is more transparent and dynamic than the 6000 I happen to have also (both fully re-capped), especially in linear mode. The amps are virtually the same though!
