Hi,

I recently purchased Beolab 7.1 speaker to use it with my Onkyo tx Nr 807 av receiver as a centre speaker, I managed to solder a trigger cable. It goes from preamp out from the receiver to 7.1, I can hear the sound ok but there’s that annoying static noise. When connected to iPhone with the same trigger cable the static noise is not present. I also connected Beolab 7.4 but same issue. Do you think the trigger cable might has something to do with it? Or should I get the proper cable from sound heavenly? Or is there something wrong with my av receiver? Does anyone of you experienced same problem?

thanks

Hi

Sounds like 'ground noise' issue.

How did make the cable ?

Does the Onkyo have a trigger ? What is the voltage (12v) ? And how did you lower the voltage to 3-5 volts ?

You could try to trigger the BL7 from a separate USB charger and verify if the static/ground noise disappears.

I use this cable with my BL7-2

Turns on/off automatically with my none B&O TV

https://www.av-connection.dk/?PGr=6497

They got a version for 12v trigger as well

The 5v comes from my USB port on my Samsung tv but I’ve tried several power sources iPhone charger, USB port on my extension lead but still same.

How do you wire audio?

RCA > PowerLink

Is both PIN2 and PIN7 connected to ground ?

https://www.beoworld.org/beotech/wiring2.htm

In the Powerlink MK3 cable, the Pin 7 must be connected to the ground.

MK3 cables are used with BL's with IcePower amps. BL7 has IcePower.

Pin 1 - Not used

Pin 2 - Audio Ground - Screen

Pin 3 - Left Audio - Brown wire

Pin 4 - ON/OFF - Yellow wire

Pin 5 - Right Audio - Green wire

Pin 6 - Not used

Pin 7 - Data ground - Blue wire

Pin 8 - Not used

That's the reason

Use pin 2, 3 and 5 for audio

Use pin 4 and 7 for trigger

That will separate ground

As always, Peter Pan has made a drawing for this scenario.

You should be able to find his many drawings on Beoworld.org  as well

Actually, that’s really strange, I plugged the usb trigger kit  to one of the usb 2 ports on the back of the tv and the speakers it’s quiet as a mouse works perfect. It might be about the amperage as the usb 2 delivers 500mA and all ports I’ve tried before were hotter 🤔

anyway thank you very much for your help Ravsted I wouldn’t have made it without you

Hi Ravsted,

I am have some static noise with my Beolab 7.1 when is connected to the phone out of my tv.
I have fallowed the schematics for the welding but is not clear if the outer part of the powerlink connector is connected to something or not, (Ground?)

Hi,

Outer part is not connected to anything.

Some TV's have a bad quality head phone output.

Try different sources for the trigger power supply. TV USB, Battery (power bank), phone chargers (I got good experience with iphone chargers).

Thanks for the quick answer. Now I am a bit confused because the cable I have done (3.5 jack>powerlink) when is plugged in my smartphone is dead silent, but when I used on the tv there is a low static noise.

As you said Ravsted, could be bad quality 3.5 jack output from my tv.

Just to clarify something, I soldered PIN 2 with Shield/Ground(from 3.5 jack) and PIN 7 to the USB Ground. PIN 2 and 7 are not bridged, Is it correct?

Because I saw the RCA>Powerlink schematics they Pin2-7 seems bridged, can someone clarify?

Thanks

Hi Ravsted,

Thank you very much! That solved the problem! Now the Beolab 7.1 is dead silent

Apart if I put the 3.5mm jack directly on the tv headphone out. But it's alright, this weekend I should receive a Yamaha Natural Sound RX-V775.

Thank you very much again, I really appreciate the support.

Hi

Glad you got it working.

Now that you have a proper Surround AVR you could have a look at this post where I combine none-B&O TV and AVR with full surround sound with B&O speakers.

Hi there and good holiday to everyone,

just a quick question, I just purchased a 7.4 to combine with my 7.1 as a centre speaker.
In terms of Powerlink connections, considering that the 7.4 is mono how should I connect the signal wire? Only left/right?

Thank you in advance, I will send picture as soon as I have finished the set up!

Same to you.

Signal wire is "only left".

See answer from Steve in this post for further information.
