Hi everyone , just joined , thanks for having me.I'm an absolute novice

to all this so please be patient. My question is this , I cannot adjust the volume on my 8000's. I recently purchased them off ebay and bought a brand new rega planer 3 , the shop I bought the turntable from asked me me what amp I was using....anyway , long story short   he got in touch with a b+o dealer who recommended using a quad preamp , which I bought off him brand new.

So , I've wired it all up , but no volume control....the indicator on the preamp shows an increase but constant volume , same if I push the mute  on the remote for the preamp.....no effect.

You need an amp or source with a volume control.

Hi FieryJack,

If your Quad pre-amp has two sets of outputs, it could be that one set is volume controlled, and one at fixed level. Does the pre-amp User guide tell you?

You may have connected the BL8000s to the fixed-level outputs - but then they would be playing very loud!

I had connected them to the wrong outputs.

Works fine now.

Cheers.
