Hi folks.
I currently have a Core that is connected to my Beosound 3000. The BS3000 is masterlinked to my BV10, so it is the TV speakers that are used when I hit play on the CD or via the app. I am thinking of adding a BS Moment to the mix. I am fed up of using my phone as the music 'controller' and like the idea of a designated control unit. I know that the economics do not really stack up; you can get an iPad mini to do the same (and I have read about the 'kiosk mode').
Question: provided the Moment is connected to my network, will it connect to the Core and allow me to use it as the control unit? Might be a daft question but I just wanted to check that the Moment can effectively 'drive' the Core.
Any help massively appreciated.
Thank you.
C
I see what you mean.
However in your current setup the extra BS Moment will not add much to the mix.....for different reasons. (By the way, what are you trying to acchieve having the Moment also?).
My advice would be to get an iPad Mini or an iPod Touch, strip it and only install the Bang & Olufsen app (and maybe Spotify, if Deezer isn’t your favourite music service already).
Dedicate this to your setup - it should not be used for anything else!
In addition you - of cource - will have to use the Beo4, that you already use (for activating the sources of the 3000 and for controlling of the BV10).

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thank you MM.
I am seduced by the looks of the Moment and the beautiful wooden design, plus the fact that it can sit as a dedicated controller for my music. I currently use the app on my phone and it is ok, it works fine, but it's not the same as having a separate dedicated control unit. I dislike having a phone as a controller (for the reasons that other people have expressed in this forum - glad I'm not alone on that!)
Perhaps I should look more closely at the iPad mini (etc) option and see if I can find a nice wooden case for it.
But in relation to my question, would the Moment actually work in my set-up? (Yes, I still need to turn on the TV speakers with the Beo 4 remote).
Another option if you are considering an IPad, would be to use a first gen or 2nd gen iPad Pro in kiosk mode (The Logitech BASE is a nice stand that uses the little magnetic connector to charge). I have an iPad and an iPod Touch docked to an Apple dock as remote controls for my B&O speakers and music. I seldom use my phone or even Essence Remote.
A bonus of using the app is that I can change tracks or volume with my watch.
B&O in my life 😊:
This is actually a very good questions that I too would like to know the answer to.
My situation is the opposite. I have the Moment (and I love it) but I use it less and less. I've thought of replacing it with a Core but I always come to the conclusion that I'd miss certain features of the Moment like the moodwheel and the discover tab etc...
On the other hand the Moment isn't very future proofed. It lacks AP2 and now we see that we cannot even expect to use it with new B&O products like the Halo etc (I was actually hoping the Halo would have a voice activation and could connect to my Moment setup - that would have been perfect for future proofing my Moment but alas that will not be the case :(
So the question remains, does anyone know if a Moment could be connected to a Core - with the view of using the Moment (like the moodwheel etc) once in a while but for the rest of the time the core control the music? And if that is possible would the music then go through the Core if played on the Moment (and could e.g. a Halo be used to control something in such situations?).
My Moment is connected to my BV Horizon just to add more complications into the mix.
I am as well interested in the "integration" of Moment and Core. In my case, not only that would allow using the Halo as a remote, but as well WISA connection to speakers and dislocating Core.
I don't have Core yet, but if that could work I would buy both Core and the Halo. And I agree with the OP, I really enjoy both the Moodwheel and the Discovery mode.

Here is what I do.
In addition to the 3 iPads that are more stationary and placed ‘strategic’ in the house, I have this little iPod Touch as a moveable ‘beoremote’.
I can take it with me as I need it.
On all devices only the Bang & Olufsen app (plus Spotify....because I am a Spotify user) is installed....nothing else.
My phone I leave in the hallway, when I am home - there is no Bang & Olufsen app on that.
I realized the need for a smaller device to take with me when I move around in the house - dragging a big iPad with me for this did not work!
The 3 stationary iPads are more like status displays....I am a socker for cover display....I want to know/see what is currently playing around the house.
Of course I have BeoRemotes as well - my main listening areas are the two BV with full 5.1 setup....so I need these anyway.

Thank you. Sounds like you have created a very user-friendly, practical system.
Can't quite beat the look of that oak cover on the Moment though, beautiful design. IPads clearly achieve the same (indeed more) functionality but they cannot compete in the aesthetics department. The question I suppose is whether one prioritises form over function.
I do like your system however, and it's really good to see how other people deal with the issues.

Form/aesthetics over function and vice versa.
Ok, my solution was created out of a need for function.....and the possibilities I have - a more profane attitude.
This can not - and is not intended to be - a replacement for the new beatyful remote (the Halo)..
Firstly that would not be able to control my setup (BV Avant 1 gen and V1 plus....) at all.
Secondly - which is more important - my solution gives me access to an important function, that the Halo does not = searching (in my case) in the Spotify library and in my own on the NAS......and it show the cover art :-)
Where the Halo for some users is a perfect companion, extension of their products and the easy access to music as such,, it does not suit my needs.
Each user/owner of B&O devices should go for the solution that suits him best.
The Halo is a genuine B&O solution - I hope it will sell well.
And - of cource - I miss the beatyful and handy volume control wheel of the Halo in my more ‘practical’ solution.
These posts about my way of doing things are only intended to be an inspiration for others looking for the best solution for their use of the B&O devices and the music.
Certainly not intended as a universal solution.

Thank you. This is all really inspirational and helpful information.
There are options for a wood look on an iPad.

If you want to hide the charging cable then the Logitech Base is one of the best options

For me, I haven't seen anything yet that beats the Moment's oak design and the fact you can control it from both sides. Having an iPad on a stand just doesn't look as elegant. But the covers you have referred to are certainly a pretty good approximation; the best I have seen I think. And it's pretty cool that you can charge from the Logitech Base.
Thank you for the links.
This is not about mimicking the BS Moment!
You can’t control your setup with the Moment....that is ‘just’ a music system/device.
It is about finding a solution that fits your needs.
The Logitech Base is a fine option - however it only works with the newer iOS devices.
My 3 iPads for the Bang & Olufsen app are all stationary and therefore hardwired to the charger.
You can’t control your entire setup with the Moment....that is ‘just’ a music system/device.
That is very true MM. A question of balancing form and function/needs. I can see that for multi room capability, the Moment might be limited. But where you have one room and you simply want to introduce an elegant, beautifully designed music controller in place of a mobile phone/ipod/ipad, the Moment, for me, is a winner. My original question was whether the Moment would actually work in my system (ie it would locate the Core and control the Core), and I think the answer to that question is "yes".
All good advice.
Compostela:it would locate the Core and control the Core), and I think the answer to that question is "yes".
The answer is NO. As MM and I said, the BS Moment and the Core are music systems on their own, not remote controller of any other B&O products.
The BS Moment can be controlled by its own tablet (JukeBox), the B&O App and by a B&O remote for basic functions.
The BS Core can be controlled by the B&O App and by B&O remotes for basic functions.
The BS Core cannot be controlled by the BS Moment, the BS core can borrow Moment audio sources (when linked) and they both support NL Multiroom, that's it
So are you saying that if you, for example, select a radio station on the Moment, you cannot stream that to the Core? That is what I mean by 'control', that is to say, the Moment directing music to the Core, and my Core then handling the rest (playing it through my BV10).

Thank you! That answers the question very simply. It will not work. How disappointing. I don't understand how an iPad or mobile phone can 'talk' to the Core and yet the B&O jukebox cannot. I suppose it is to do with the app is it? The iPad/phone is running the app and that serves as the command for the Core; and the jukebox is lacking that app feature.
Compostela:I suppose it is to do with the app is it?
Got it. Thank you. Yes, an opportunity missed perhaps.
mbolo01:Correct, you cannot stream to the Core from the Moment the way you want to achieve it.
...and this is why you introduced the TR1 into the mix and plugged Moment and Core separately into it, right? Well that works for me.
And what is the benefit then of "NL joining" Moment and Core?

Problem sorted, I think.
Connect the Moment to the Core via the Core's Line In input. The Core is already connected to the Ouverture via the Ouverture's aux socket. A solution I am told!
