Hi all,

I'm torn between buying a LG CX 65" with a Stage and buying an Eclipse. I'd much rather have a Beovision Eclipse standing around with the possibilities it gives me, and I could even keep using my Beolab 3's.

My main problem is, that I don't really wanna buy and 'old' Oled panel and be stuck with HDMI 2.0.

I already own a Loewe Bild 4, a TV that has only caused trouble and disappointment, since I bought the damn thing, so I need an upgrade that can last me for many years to come and be better than the Loewe. I do own a PS4 and will indeed get a PS5 (maybe even an xbox) and own a AppleTV. Will also need to hook up my turntable.

A B&O store in Denmark told me, that a new-updated Eclipse would surface later this year, however, can I be sure, that it'll happen? And if so, with HDMI 2.1 and maybe even a new panel?

Will appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

It have been rumored the whole year so it will hopefully come very soon.

The rumors indicate that it will receive a GX panel/tv so there you will have 3 HDMI 2.1 available.

So just wait a bit longer.

Tak Emil.

Exciting, maybe it's just my inner lack of patience...

Loewe was just a huge disappointment, so need a change albeit it'll cost me :-/

Probably the fourth 'when is the new Eclipse coming?' thread.

The latest I heard was that B&O was still trying to figure how they can produce an Eclipse using a standard off-the-shelf CX, with the sound bar, plus stand and convince people like us it's really an Eclipse and not just stand + CX + remote.

As the new Eclipse is rumoured to include a non-custom off-the-shelf panel, which will enable an owner or dealer to swap it out for an updated panel in a year or two, this approach is more problematic.

Frankly, although my GX + Stage + BeoRemote is a decent setup, in terms of integration, it's no way near the level of an Eclipse. I'd still prefer an updated Eclipse, but refuse to spend £8K on a 2017 panel.

But then why would the B&o app mention the Eclipse-family? To my knowledge until now there has only be one type!

I don’t understand why it’s so problematic though.

It’s a sound bar with a pre amp for surround built in. You can buy any Sony, pioneer, Yamaha etc receiver with arc and get the same outputs and integration more or less with hdmi Cec.

B&O has the custom app and implementation between stage as well so the issue should be non existing really. The only thing is puc control and stand control but as this can be programmed in the stand itself through an app this is also already solved.

As far as I can see there should be no problems, rather bigger problem that everyone is waiting and/or have to buy a three year old outdated technology and stick with that for five years or so.

I don’t understand why it’s so problematic though.

The Eclipse has far more functionality and custom parts than a stand + LG + Stage combination. For example, the screen is designed to sit in the soundbar so it looks like the bottom of the panel goes through the bar and out the bottom.

This kind of design is virtually impossible to create using an 'off the shelf' panel and incorporating future panel changes, so you can drop in a brand new panel in 2-3 years and keep the same design.

I'd love to explain how this is so 'easy' (using the reverse of 'so problematic') to build? The only way around this is to lose the Eclipse shape and simply have a panel, separate bar, affixed to a stand.

As a creative myself I never see things as problems really, I just work on solving them :). I honestly think they will find a way and I don't see thinking one out taking three years. We've been discussing this forever as well. Anyway, its up to B&O to come up with something. Not being able to update their own product line in so many years is devastating and honestly pretty weird.

Devastating?!

Name one thing missing from the Eclipse, that you would get in a 2020 tv from Samsung,Philips,Sony or Panasonic?

Uhm?

Airplay 2, apple HomeKit or better processing and everything else that has evolved. Just to name a few. It’s a tv using a three year old panel that is worse than the cheaper newer Lg Oleds.

I am sorry you feel so offended.

The Eclipse has Airplay 2 and basic integration with HomeKit, as do all Airplay 2 compatible speakers.

To be fair, so far you've said you don't believe B&O stockpiled old LG panels (when we said they were custom parts), casually said you 'solve problems :)' and then a lack of updates from B&O with the Eclipse is 'devastating' (as if it's easier for you to do this than B&O) and now claim the Eclipse doesn't have features it has always had :)

Michael, I suggest dropping out of these Eclipse discussions as they will offend as you keep putting your foot in it.

As I said from the start, it's actually not easy to take the idea of the Eclipse - which is fantastic - and then replace it with a more 'off the shelf' part, yet keep a design which looks like a custom design and user-updatable in the future.

These replies are becoming more and more bizarre!

AirPlay is primarily for streaming audio and the sound center component is the only one B&O controls. If you really need to stream from your iPhone to your TV, just get an Apple TV or similar. Like most people own. They are under £200.

Alternatively, just use the apps on the TV, such as YouTube or BBC iPlayer etc etc.

And if you wait for an updated panel, you'll get the Apple TV app. Obviously the fact B&O uses an older 2017 panel does restrict what they can support via the panel itself (ie. no Apple TV app).

You have the first things in a Apple TV, which is much better anyways.

And about better processing, can you see a difference, I sure don't.

And LG OLED cheap or expensive it is the same, okay B9S have a slower processing than C and GX, but again who can see the difference?

Not sure what is bizarre. I’m not defending using outdated panels that is not even in production. I already have the Apple TV but the question was what would be differences and I replied with true facts. How is that bizarre? I feel this forum is getting pretty rude and mean. For no reason. Would benefit B&O to not stop developing and pushing old tech for high fees. That is my opinion and I don’t ask that everyone agrees with it but let me have it without ridiculing.

Another feature with real HomeKit implementation is that the set can be turned on and off with your Siri assist and and geofence. I use this every day for my home and it’s something I am waiting for to upgrade my tv as well.

I’ve heard many say the image quality on harmony is way better than the eclipse and many reviewers also clearly state the difference between the iterations. Again, why would I prefer an older panel to current technology? I honestly can’t see that.

I simply rather have current technology than buy several year old technology for a higher cost. As I’ve said, it’s my opinion and I let you have yours.

Reminds me of BeoVision 7. Panel (TV) clearly separate from the BeoLab 7.x. Plus stands just like BV7 had.

Eclipse v2 could be a modern version of BeoVision 7 Smile

I am not saying that you are not correct that newer is better in many terms, but calling it devastating when it is very minor updated is what I think is weird.

The brands I mentioned don have HDMI 2.1 yet like the Eclipse, and that would be in my book a deal breaker here in 2020. So what I am trying to say is that the Eclipse is not outdated compared to most brands, but the HDMI is compared to the new LG.

The picture improvement I would bet that you would not notice. I just bought the CX as a PC screen, and I cannot see any difference.

OLED is just that much better than everything else.

When you change from your Avant you will not be concerned when the OLED is from, you will just think why you did not buy it sooner.

It is not devastating that they havn't updated it, but it is going to be really good when they do.

I do deal with monitors everyday in my workplace so it’s not news to me either that oleds is better but mainly the difference between oled and current gen led monitors is the backlight being the difference as in color and brightness levels. The rest is processing and I guess that is also much improved every year albeit not as big of a difference between the yearly updates as from a 2014 Avant. Of course that will be a bigger difference. I just won’t pay for a 2017 screen in 2020, just like I won’t pay 900 euro for a three year old Apple Watch, even if the changes are incrementally small. For full price I want the latest tech.

The newer screens I gather have more inputs of the newer standard which gives more flexibility and an updated beocenter might (or not) have atmos support as well, it would be nice. I don’t remember if it supports dts.

As a pc monitor the screen should do not much as that image is to be presented as is but other media is usually processed a lot in the tv to compensate for cut frames and interpolation of the details in lower resolution media and so forth. Contrast is usually also dynamic and for hdr I believe Lg had made a lot of improvements in their latest sets.

I have a MacBook Pro from 2017, it works well for me but is getting slow. That machine is stellar but the new ones is even better and soon with a new processor platform as well. That is also development that can be noticed but isn’t necessarily needed by everyone. But if I bought the 2017 today I would also pay much much less than I did then. But of course, if they didn’t iterate then it would perhaps still be expensive but who would prefer buying it then?

Anyway, long story short, I just hope a new model will come out and that they do innovate and don’t just stop. There is just so long you can push an old model on the market and I don’t want the company to go bankrupt.

Hallo Michael,

I would not buy the Eclipse today either I am with you there.

I bought the Eclipse when I saw in January 2018 what the C8 was going to be.

Nothing really improved so it was safe to buy the Eclipse.

And I went from a 1080P LG OLED, and again did not see a difference only on HDR.

OLED is great, and no others than expert can find the difference on normal viewing, or at least I don't think they can.

The mayor difference between the models is upscaling mostly, in 4k the difference is not big. But regular to upscaled from 1080i to 4k is hugely different. So if you live in the UK and can get sky in 4k it matters very little. But if you’re in my boat here with 1080i as the normal for 99/100 channels it’s hugely different. The connections matter not that much either as 4k 60hz is years and years away as a standardStick out tongue

Well, HDMI 2.0 wont allow me to use the PS5 in 120 fps though... Also, I'm pretty sure, that 2.1 will allow picture/audio sync perfectly. I have on my Loewe huge problems with 4K BluRay disc ex. with sync, and there that (sorry, but *** TV) has very little ways of syncing audio which a dedicated receiver would be able to do.

Dunno if Beovision TV's have a solution for this, but that's surely also why I'm very focused on the HDMI issue. Would suck to have a crisp HDR picture with sound lacking 2-3 frames afterwards.

120fps at what resolution? Neither the new xbox or playstation will be capable of doing that unless the quality is terrible. Just look at an rtx3080 reviewSmile

Quite sure they promise a lot of games in 120 at 4k? A variety of fps at least.

Well no matter, my main concern is the Audio Sync. I have no idea if the eclipse has a sync setting.

The mythical version 2........same 2 conclusions as whenever this question is asked.

Firstly, no one really knows anything, and the amount of false dawns (misleading nods from dealers) has been remarkable.

Secondly, although many dealers will say B&O are looking at a v2, no one even knows exactly what that means.

So in short, nothing to report.

I think this question has been asked every couple of months for the last 2 years.

Well, I thought we concluded v2 was real based on the language change in the app to “Eclipse FAMILY”, family added for emphasis. Just wondering if anyone knew anything new. :)

Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote

Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA
