Looks like WISA has opted for a direct approach to reach more customers. They have just announced a device that connects to any TV with ARC/eARC or an optical output and sends audio to WISA-enabled speakers.

https://www.wisaassociation.org/wisa-introduces-soundsend-home-cinema-audio-transmitter-to-instantly-connect-100s-of-millions-of-smart-tvs-to-wisa-certified-speakers/

WiSA presenta SoundSend, un transmisor de audio multicanal inalámbrico para llevar el sonido de la tele a los altavoces sin cables

Priced a 179USD and scheduled to be launched next month.

Sounds good!

What the point for a B&O customer to use this 7.1 Wisa audio transmitter.

When B&O dont have a center speaker with wisa.

Because when you use this with hdmi ARC/earc everything off the sound from the tv need to go true this transmitter, so you cannot us an other center speaker and connect to a tv, the tv will not have any connection to a center speaker anyway.

So this will only work as a stereo speaker setup, or connect true a dolby digital surround processor with possible to connect this to hdmi arc, and also connect a cable center speaker (then we are back again with alot of box, cable and remote control)

Few other speaker brand have make speaker with wisa, Klipsch have one for center speaker, but that is an ugly box speaker design,  that not fit into a flat TV.

So if you want a surround system to work its still an BeoVision Eclipse or harmony that is the killer:) until B&O will make an center speaker like eclipse and harmony that can be stand alone and connect to any tv, with wisa and dolby prosessor built in:) We can hope that happend in the future, but nobody now when or if it will came.

If other have an solution with this, welcome to share the answear :)

I see this as an option for people who do not have a Beovision but still want to use their Beolabs. Of course not having a B&O center speaker is a handicap but there's a lot of creativity out there to disguise a Kilpsch or any other brand inside a cabinet, in a wall or even behind your large screen, if you're using a projector with your setup.

Can you set speaker distance? And why show beolab speakers that have loads of latancy.

Beovision 7-55 MK1 red, Beolab 10 red. Beolab 50, all black. Beolab 17 broken ice. Beolab transmitter. Apple tv4 and apple express 2.

Read the article :) as far as I can see it seems to be better even than B&O soundCenter as it also features atmos support.

. The TV remote is then used for daily operation while the SoundSend send app offers tuning features that customize the speaker system to personal preferences. Once setup is finalized, SoundSend, with its wireless audio quality of up to 24bit/96kHz, transmits up to eight audio channels and decodes Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital + and Dolby Atmos.

My Zone, one of SoundSend’s features, perfects the system by easily calibrating each speaker to the listener’s location to create a sweet spot for the best possible entertainment experience. The WiSA SoundSend brings true cinema sound to any home, making immersive audio available for everyone with a smart TV. This groundbreaking solution guarantees interoperability for a variety of the world’s leading audio brands and further showcases WiSA’s commitment to implementing worldwide standards for wireless, high-resolution, multichannel audio.

A potential Transmitter 1 replacement for me.

- Optical Input to connect my Core for 2.1 music experience

- HDMI input to connect my non B&O TV for 5.1 AV experience (assuming I acquire a Wisa center speaker)

Should do it isn’t it?

The Atmos support was promised for Q2....which is already over ;-(

And - if you have the 8 channels, that WiSA support, you will have to sacrifize 2 of these for height speakers.

Or maybe use three for a soundbar with L/C/R....which does not exist as of now.

The result would be a 5.1.2 setup - not much Atmos there.

Only way to solve that problem, is to be able to mix wired and wireless channels (like the SoundCenter can).

Maybe waiting for a genuine B&O solution would be better than a halfbaked WiSA Atmos solution.

Atmos is a buzzword nowadays - It sells.

However, I’d prefer a 7.1 setup for a 5.1.2.

I didn’t plan to buy this just saying what it states. B&O uses atmos in its stage as well. Apples AirPods Pro also supports spatial audio now and can by gyroscope place sounds in space almost perfectly.

Atmos is about placing sounds in space and the hardware part might be fewer speakers since speakers can fool us to make us believe sounds is coming from different places thanks to us having two ears and doing some magic on latency or sounds and ways sounds are played back (we will interpret sounds that sounds a bit off to be from another place for example).

Therefore I believe atmos can be used in a good way together with many different speaker amount-setups. And it would probably also be good for the producers actually putting an effort to produce soundtracks in a free space solution. I guess even old style surround is a bit annoying to work with and that atmos gives more flexibility to render sound in space better and easier.

I find this new WiSa SoundSend announcement an interesting development and I'm keeping a close eye on this because for me, maybe it could be a cheapish way of getting into wireless surround sound.

Just a quick question for the technically more inclined:

I can understand that six overhead speakers is better than two if the user wants front, middle and back height channels left and right for Atmos or any other object based sound system, for that matter. So I was wondering if it would at all be possible for WiSa to use the assigned bandwidth for, say, sixteen channels of 16-bit at 48kHz instead of the present standard of eight channels with 24-bit, 96kHz?

I mean, wouldn't making the per channel available data transmission and bandwidth smaller, enable the availability of more channels? Would such a method with more surround channel options, like for example more height channels or two subwoofer channels be an option to expand the number of available surround possibilities of the WiSa system? (probably with less audio quality but also with the prospect of more speaker sales 😎😎😎)

Would the B&O Receiver1 solve that, connected to a BL7-4 or BL10 or BL17 via PL cable?

SA in DK make a WISA center speaker that looks pretty cool; certainly not ugly. Be interesting to hear what someone in the know thinks of their products.

B&O should just get it over with and release a Stage with this capability built-in.

Of course at the risk of cannibalizing Beovision sales, but I think they could still differentiate on design, materials and better integration.

I fully agree, the Stage is a very interesting proposition and if WiSa would be included and one could build a complete WiSa surround system with the Stage as starting point, I'd be tempted very much.

Unfortunately it is not done with just adding WiSA transmitting (or some PowerLink port for that matter).

The Stage has it’s own unique audio processing built in - which includes accepting a Dolby Atmos encoded signal.

The Sound Center (of the BV Harmony/Eclipse however, has the True Image processing of B&O built-in and distributes the sound (via WiSA and/or PowerLink) in a rather different way.

What you ask for is a quite different product than what the Stage is and can offer.

What you aim at, is a center speaker (or a 3 channel speaker) with audio processing and distribution for several channels built-in (using WiSA in your case).......that would be a quite different product.

Maybe that will come some day - who knows (and if, then probably at a much higher price than the Stage of today).

Just adding a WiSA transmitter to a Stage does not do the job......it is the way the audio is processed and distributed to muliple channels, that is the important thing!!!

So if I buy this Wisa Soundsend device, and 5 Beolab 1 receivers (maybe secondhand?..) and connect the Soundsend to my LG C9 Oled and all transmitters to my existing Beolab speakers (7.1 centre, 8000s front, 6000s rear) I would achieve full 'wireless' modern (dts, atmos, etc etc) surround sound, controlled with my LG remote and no hassle with additional surround receivers, etc?

Or would this also work without a Soundsend?

So only wisa Beolab 1 receivers?

Because the LG C9 has wisa built in, like mentioned in this topic:

https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/35693/274067.aspx

Or would the Soundsend be a better option because you can set things like speaker distances, audio modes, level control etc:

Yes, of cource that would work.....if you’d be happy with the rudimentary multichannel functions, that the WiSA Ready function of the LG-tv’s - or for that matter the Soundsend - offers.

Not much B&O expertice left there, then.....and they could sack half of the staff in the Acoustic Department in Struer.

Not much need for B&O overall, then........when it comes to sound from (multichannel) video sources and integration with other B&O devices.

And what benefit would the Soundsend have compared to other already existing WISA transmitters, like the Axiim Link HD, which also suits my WISA-ready LG oled?

Edit: already found my answer:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/wisa-wireless-explained/

Guess this system would be perfect for me... Only need 5 beolab transmitter 1's... Pricey....

If one is satisfied with 5.1 sound via wisa wouldn’t the LG tv C9 etc be able to do this standalone? Or does LG wisa only offer stereo?

Further, I am curious as to learn if someone has tried any of these setups with BeoLab Wisa speakers connected directly to LG television.
E.g. master volume, can you use the LG remote to adjust this or will you have to find your smartphone and use the app?

I contacted the company months ago as i was going to try it with my Sony OLED and 18s and 3s to see what it does.

They don’t have a distributor here in Australia. When they do, I’ll get one.

Yes, I have this, and it is simply a marvellous and very reliable, no drop-outs like I had with the B&O transmitter and very simple to set up with a multitude of options, It has also just had an update, I am presently running a 4.1 system. I have a pair of Beolab 18 for the fronts and a Beolab 19 for the sub and the rears are a pair of Harman Kardon Citation surrounds incredible small satellites that work perfectly with the Beolabs and Soundsend, and listening in Dolby Atmos in Dolby Vision is simply incredible, for for the price I highly recommend the unit, I have the Soundsend connected to my Hisense tv oled again an incredible screen which has a facility on it to have the sound only and blank the screen, I also stream Spotify and saved music on my tablet and phone as well as watching Youtube musicagain quite superb.

The only item I am after now is a centre speaker, and I am thinking about getting another pair of the Harman Kardons although only needing one.
