I recently acquired a Beocord 8000. Very clean but didn't play tapes.

Ordered replacement belts from Martin. The belts had turned to goo.

Still no activity from motor after replacing belts. A quick search on beoworld, pointed me to blown fuse on PCB 6. Replaced the fuse..press play and the fuse blew again.

Cleaned the tape mechanism. Again tried to play and no movement on motor but fuse was ok. Tried moving the shaft by hand..felt vibration in motor and the fuse blew again.

I was getting 14.2v on the small board next to the motor (PCB 12). (before the fuse blew).

Blown motor ? Any chance of fixing the motor ?

Any guidance will be appreciated !!

Sounds like a bad motor, if you are sure that you are using the correct rating and type of fuse.

Yes Martin, 200mA slow blow fuse. says that on the PCB.

There is absolutely no movement from the motor. The shaft moves freely by hand.

Any chance that you can provide a replacement motor ?

Thanks !!

Good motors are getting rare these days, with all the incorrect belts being sold on Ebay etc., but I will take a look in the dungeons.
PM or email me.

Thanks for the motor Martin.

Replaced and the tape mechanism is up and running.

I noticed that the VU Meter does not go beyond -2db.

More troubleshooting for the weekend.

So recap/cleaning/lubricating complete.

Only issue is the VU meter. It doesn't go beyond the first 4 bars. When songs are fading in/out the bars increase/decrease normally.

Also am I supposed to see the numbers for the bars ?

Yes, the dial should be illuminated. Probably a burned lamp, the lamps tend to break off a lead right where they enter the glass envelope from the vibrations in the deck.
The VU-meter is driven by two ICs. One for the first four bars, and one for the last four bars.
I would look a bit on those ICs (1IC3 1IC4). Are they both powered?

Thanks for the guidance Martin.

I will look for the lamp. Is this the 6V, 1W lamp on the schematic ?

Yes, I was looking at the schematics last night and all LEDs driven by 1 IC out of the 2 are impacted. I will investigate that later today.

Thanks !!

Lamp - Sure enough the lead had broken off right at the glass entry point. Replaced the bulb.

VU Meter - IC3 (LM324) was the culprit. Replaced the same and all is well with the VU meter.

Martin - As always thank you for the guidance !!
