Just got a beosound moment. I'm trying to connect to my non B&O amp using the RJ45 to phono cable, and during first set up, I select the wired speakers option, but the Moment says it cannot detect the wired speakers.

So now I'm stuck on set-up page. I can't even update the firmware as setup is not complete, What can I do? I even tried selecting the wireless speaker option, and tried to connect to several bluetooth headphones, but none would connect.

The setup can't continue unless speakers are selected.

Is there a way to upgrade the firmware manually via USB stick?

If I am forced to buy B&O speakers, what are the cheapest B&O speakers, new or old, that have the RJ45 connection that will work with the beosound moment?

Any help appreciated.

Moment expect active speakers.

All older B&O active speakers have powerlink connections. There are adapters to buy to bridge between RJ45 and Powelink. I’m sure Soundsheavenly can provide that. A pair of Beolab 4000 would be a good choice.

I don’t think you can get a line out to put into an amp.

Correct, it is a-line IN only

I've ordered an adapter that will "fool" the Beosound Moment into thinking that wired speakers are connected to it, so hopefully this will allow the first time set up to progress beyond the speaker stage. It's an adapter with a resistor built in, which is supposed to be the same resistance that B&O active speakers provide, I should then be able to use my RJ45 to phono adapter cable to connect to non B&O speakers. I'll report back.

Does the Beosound Moment's "wireless speakers" option use the Bluetooth protocol, or WISA?

I'll be honest, I'm not a tech luddite, but the lack of proper information/trouble shooting on the Beosound Moment is very very unexpected. I even contacted B&O support services, and they basically told me to go to my nearest dealer.

It may be sufficient for the setup, but as mentioned, Moment is built for active speakers, so it will not work with passive speakers.

Correct, but one could use a MCL2P or BL Passive or ML/MCL converter or Beoamp to connect passive speakers

I would also recommend to look at the understated Beolab 6000 and the iconic Beolab 8000.  I have the 6000s attached to my Moment in the dining room and the 8000s attached to my Moment in the office.  I can't honestly say I can detect a difference in the sound at the volume levels I listen at.  Both sound fantastic, and I find the 6000s to be a little more subtle for decor.

I'm actually looking for a set of 6000s to replace the 8000s in my bedroom.  I had the 6000s in the bedroom and got a pair of 8000s to work with the Moment in the dining room.  But the 8000s were too big for the space, so I swapped with the 6000s.  The 6000s look great in the dining room, but the 8000s are really too big for the bedroom.

So the adapter cable arrived and I was able to complete the setup process. When it got to the main menu it informed me that there was a firmware upgrade available and I selected to upgrade. It seemed to go through the firmware upgrade OK, and it then rebooted with the B&O start-up logo. After that, the screen flashed a few times and there is nothing on the display now, I tried resetting both the tablet and the main unit according to instructions, but the same thing happens every time. No display. It looks like the authorised firmware from B&O has bricked their own device. Anyone able to help?

My first (and last) experience with B&O. Never in over 30 years of using tech products have I encountered a more troublesome device.

You could try to power the unit down and disconnect from mains and return to it later.

The Moment is an abomination. A terrible piece of equipment. Don’t know what possessed me to buy this. On every parameter, it is rubbish. This is a hang your head in deep shame moment in B&Os history IMHO.

Thankfully B&O preceded this with mesmerising products 1960-2000s.

Thanks. I've left the jukebox off the main unit for almost 24 hours now, and it still displays the pulsing grey screen when I dock it to the soundheart. How long does it take for the jukebox battery to run down to 0%, as a couple of other threads say this fixes the issue with the jukebox. Is there a way of making the battery in the jukebox run down quicker?

The potential fix to try is to power down the SoundHeart and to take the power cable out for some time (don’t exactly how long is the best).

should i leave the jukebox docked in the soundheart? or make sure it is completely separated from it during power down?

You can leave it.

I removed the back panel of the jukebox and completely disconnected the battery. I left it alone for 24 hours, so all residual power could drain. As soon as I connected the battery, the same flickering grey screen appeared. Even with the battery disconnected and the jukebox docked, the flickering continued, So it is definitely not an issue with the battery or the charging circuits.

I believe the fault is due to a firmware flash that went bad, even though the messages seemed to indicate that it had installed fine. But once the jukebox rebooted, this is when I lost the display.

My first (and last) foray into B&O is sadly over, because I really wanted to keep the BS Moment due to it's design and potential features which I never got to experience. I'm also left £75 out of pocket for all the various cables/adapters I had to buy, just to get past the speaker setup stage during first set-up.

I will be returning the BS Moment this morning and getting a wireless music streamer from a reputable brand that (1) works and (2) cares about their customers (3) is able to provide proper technical support.

Thanks for all the advice during my brief time on this forum.
