Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Indeed. I wish Axel had an English version of his website though!
Jacques
Axel speaks good English, but I dont think he is doing his own website, he must have a lot of work in his workshop, and thats where we want him
But maybe his webmaster could do something about it.
I googled the site here
chartz: Indeed. I wish Axel had an English version of his website though!
... the most most important page for B&O owners about MMC needle repair is also available in English!
http://www.schallplattennadeln.de/B-O-MMC-Reparatur-Repair/MMC-Repair-English/
For all other pages use common sense - and/or let google translate
Yes - Axel is the man. Great service, excellent job - and his English is perfectly good.
I'm surprised also that people don't have the common sense to use a free online translation tool like Google Translate. Even if i'd never heard of it, i'd still Google the word "translate" - which is how I first found Google translate. It's a great tool.
I also get asked on a weekly basis "how much is that in US Dollars" or "how much is that in Euro's" ... It's not rocket science to search for that on Google either !!
Maybe I'm being unfair, but everything you could ever need is there to help you on the web.. you just have to type it in the search box.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum (and this site!). I do agree that translating the site via Google is easy enough, but my problem, as someone totally new to the delights of B & O, is that I don't know which option to choose for the re-tipping of my MMC 1.
Can any of you experts help me?
Many thanks in advance.

If you use Google Translate, you need a lot of common sense too - to understand the translation...
It's definitely not perfect...
I remember a german guy, who - in the Google translate version - told us that: 'Luckily I have a woman (whom I have exchanged) them this insanity tolerates.' ( I still haven't figured this one out...)
-and:'If I put them in the ears mostly fly away to them and they have totally been surprised. And I them to me only a few years them to me "nicely look" had to go.' - I haven't figured this one out either...
Thanks, Steffen,
You are, of course, right. What I guess I meant was that at least it enables you to get the general gist. My problem is more that, even with a perfect English translation, I wouldn't know which re-tipping option to choose.
Can you tell me why/how the "Repair with shibata diamond needle with renewal of the stylus suspension" is superior to "Repair with nude line and saphire cantilever"?
Sorry, but I am a complete novice, and don't want to make the wrong choice.
Axel has retipped a number of my cartridges and all are superb. He replaced a complete cantilever and stylus on an MMC2 which was just as good as getting a new one. I have also had a couple of cartridges fitted with the Shibata stylus which really do sound fantastic and are my favourites.
Peter
Many thanks, Peter,
I just found a year old previous thread on this topic. The suggestion was that the choice depended on the speakers used. Do you agree with this? If so, which do you think we should use with Bose cube speakers? (Yes, I know they aren't B & O, but they were inherited along with the Beocenter 7000!)
Regards.
Not seen that discussion! On the whole, the better the stylus, the more information. However some profiles can sound brighter than others and the present Beolab range of ALT speakers also emphasise the top end so maybe a smoother cartridge could suit more. The Soundsmith range in particular are very bright with lots of perceived detail and could be wearing with BL3s.
As far as Bose are concerned, most of these speakers emphasise the top and lower ranges with the midrange being a little recessed. I would suggest getting the MMC4 simply retipped as a MMC4 rather than going for a line contact or Shibata. Good value and a well balanced profile.
Thanks for your, as ever, useful information.
My stylus is a MMC 1. Does that make any difference?
The MMC1 is the best one - Axel can simply retip this as a MMC2 - the difference was that MMC1s had selected diamonds and were supposed to be better specified. If used with a Beogram, I doubt one can hear any difference.
Once again, thanks very much Peter,
Hopefully my last question on this subject: which of Axel's options do I select in order to get the MMC1 re-tipped as an MMC 2?
Sorry for being so ignorant!
Have a good evening.
This one:
with Nude line diamond stylus and sapphire cantilever € 179,00 (such as MMC 1 / 2 inquire with sapphire cantilever) (previously available)
That will be the same essentially as you have now. You will notice that there is a cut in the cartridge body following repair.
Thank you so much, Master,
His website suggests that Axel still offers this.
I'm so grateful to you for all your help.
Bye for now.
I am going to hijack this a little. I have an MMC1 that I wasn't using. I just looked at it and discovered the cantilever is missing. Can this be repaired by Axel?
Thanks,
Yes, he can.
The cartridge bodies of the series MMC1-5 are identical so you can choose whichever diamond and cantilever you like from the list of options.
Regards Graham
That's good to hear, and best of luck.
Our Beogram is a 7000.
In the USA, SoundSmith does an excellent job:

I'm sure you are both right about SoundSmith. The problem for those of us in Europe is the shipping cost!
Cheers..
Soundsmith sells new MMC cartridges produced by themselves. I have a Soundsmith MMC1 and it is perfect.
Axel has an excellent reputation. I am going to request he restore a MMC1 cartridge that is missing the cantilever.
I have a Beogram 7000 and Beogram 9500.
Hi you sent me a message saying that your friend will shortly be repairing stylus in the uk. is he any nearing to doing this? I am reluctant to send mine abroad to be fixed and would be interested in your friend doing it. Look forward to hearing from you. thanks andy
I don't understand your reluctance to send your cartridge abroad.
I have been sending packages of 6-8 cartridges to Axel for a number of years with no problems. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
This week I have received a small order of 3 MMC2's back from him with his usual impeccable service.
