We've had some stinkers over the years, but thankfully they are becoming fewer in number as the designers and engineers (and CEO's !!) realise you can't ride the brand name for too long. People get smart!

However, there must be a product int he current line-up which you really think is rubbish, pointless, badly designed, not really fit for it's purpose ?

Choose one product and tell us all why...

Only going by appearance in the showroom, but the Beosound 4 seems not much of an improvement on the Beocenter 2. Poor design and increased price (???)  just for the sake of an SD card slot???

Graham

Edit. May be lower cost, but it looks it!

The BeoVision 4-85/103.

A succinct encapsulation of everything that was wrong with the company. Every aspect is absolutely out of whack, even for an elite clientele. Price is too high, size is too unwieldy, installation is a nightmare, hardly displayed anywhere.

Beosound 5

A digital music player that was 5 years past its prime when it first came out.

It's supposed to free your music collection but instead needs to be attached to an ugly box and remain in one place in the room. Way overpriced as well

Beosound 4, because it has an SD slot that is so limited when it comes to file types and bit rates, rendering it useless.  It's a product that was already behind the curve before it was launched, still for sale,  taunting me with all its cheap plastics.

Hi Lee,

Beoplay line included ?

beoplay v1 and beoplay 12 look ugly for me.

I owned a beosound 4 and now a beocenter 2, maybe the bc2 is well made but this unit is very slowwwww compared to the beosound 4, the bc2 has no movment detector neither, it is maybe a cheaper design but not if you consider the specifications.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

beolab 4 too expensive for what they offer,in sound, your better with a beoplay a8.

beocom 5 cant put my finger on it just prefer beocom 6000 for usabilty, and beocom 2 for looks.

beoplay v1,I know its built to a price point, but just looks cheap, and tacky.

beovision 103" pointless tv better with smaller beovision for day to day and then a projector, which makes it feel more authentic watching a movie.

There's no way the Beosound 4 can be regarded as the worst product - mostly it does what it says on the tin and it looks reasonably decent.

For me, the worst product B&O have produced, looks aside, is the BeoCom 5. We have two in the office and they are so flaky it's untrue. Often lose connection to the base, reset whilst on an important call and so on. We've had them replaced twice, too. No difference. BeoCom 2's have never had these issues, so it's a specific problem with the BeoCom 5s. So, in terms of usability and ability to do a job, the BeoCom 5 is the worst product I've owned.

There are only few products I would actually buy in the current line-up. Worst products for me are playmaker, Beosound 5, Beocom 5, and most TV's.

Worst products?

Hmmm... let me think:

Beo 5/6 - nice to hold in your hands but nowhere near the Beo4 in terms of ease of use - Overpriced Junk with bad software... Pls upgrade the Beo4 ( color options, backlit keys, programmable ) and you are done... Beo4 is THE perfect remote!

Beoplay A3 - First time I saw it it was like: WTF? Who buys this thing? Really ugly and not B&O in my opinion... The idea behind was: We must do something that works with the iPad if it makes sense or not...

Beovision 4 85/103 - Have you seen one in person? It's ugly in every aspect, if you would give it to me for free, i would sell it directly....

Best regards

Stephan

Master Link - may not be a specific product, but most other multi room systems have far better capabilities and can run different sources from the main system to different rooms at the same time.

By far BEOSOUND5/BEOMASTER5 and more particularly the software, which doesn't allow you to do anything in linked rooms. No control from there of anything related to N.RADIO or N.MUSIC, except with the BEO6 remote and its 2-way feature, which allows some control for N.MUSIC, but not for N.RADIO unless you put stations in your favorites.

Never understood why the software was never really improved to make things easier especially in linked rooms. A real pity as I'm convinced that the product has (had?) some potential. Also would have been easy to add a video display feature... which actually exists, but it was never advertised and not all video formats are displayed.

Speaking about worst product. ..I'm not mentioning the BeoPlayer!

You can assign a (Net)radio-station to a number on Beo4  - Radio1/Radio2......-  just like before with analog radiostations, and chooce from a linkroom.

Do you really need to explore netradiostation from a linkroom???

You can also assign a playlist to one of the colored buttons - which is far to complicated imo.

BS/BM5-users normaly use the MOTS-function when listening to music.

You can hook it up to your tv and distribute the screen as well as the sound to a linkroom-tv.

Every dealer should be able to tell you how.

But it is not a 'multimedia-machine' - was never meant to. For that you need another (a more powerfull) hardware.

Note: I do not have a BS/BM5.  I never liked the fact that you have to get up and go to it - unless you have a Beo6. I don't fancy MOTS, I am an album-listener.

But it has other qualities - it is fast and relieable and the soundquality is pretty good (with losless-files).

Just saying I don't need it/want it - but it is definetely not the WORST B&O-PRODUCT.

Greetings Millemissen

Thanks a lot for this information, but I knew all this (playlist etc.)

If you have both BS5/BM5 connected you can only control the playlist by number with the BEO4. It's different when you have only BM5. Then control is possible. BO recommends to have a BS5 in each linked room! (no I'm not kidding!)

Right now I'm in a linked room. Turn on BeoSound 5 with the Beo4, select N.MUSIC, starts playing and that's about it. No control whatsover on author, album, folder or title. OK I can use the Beo6 remote, but then if I select N.RADIO, again useless except if I did define a playlist by numbers.

Believe me the BS5/BM5 is a missed opportunity... but where I definitely agree with you: absolutely great sound!

The Lab 4s? I am actually guilty of owning them for my alternative computer setup before the Lab3s. I think B&O should consolidate the Lab4s and 3s into one product instead. I think the design of the Lab4s is really genius kinda reminiscent of some high tech looking lotus of sorts but the built is CHEAP! And the enclosure vibrates way too much. So I am thinking the similar passive radiator and bass unit configuration of the Lab3s minus the lens with 3rd generation ice amps in an aluminum or resin chassis. The Lab4s might sound amazing for its size but it is definitely still low-fi.

I actually don't audition before I make my purchases. I blame it on my anxiety - I always feel like I am being watched. I like to be in and out of stores in a split second that's why I prefer online shopping.

Oh don't forget about the old Beosound 2. Love the design but what's with the limited file compatibility? The last I remember it can't even playback full-res CD files without glitches. Oh and the Beosound 6? 16GB for the price and physical size? That's wrong. I would have bought it if it is available in 64gb as standard. 16Gb only holds 18 CDs for me. And shouldn't the hook earphones be retired already? It can't even remotely compare to a way more comfortable and equally stylish Klipsch X10 and that's not to mention the disparity in sound quality.

Oh yes I agree that the A3 is doomed from the start! I mean a snug fit for an iPad? Were the creators high? It obviously would have a shelf-life equivalent of an iPhone case.

Lastly the Beocom2. OMG I don't even know where to begin. It is now in storage at my place. It might be cool looking but not practical on every single level. It's heavy, the buttons are configured oddly and you can't really hold that lead dil*o on your palm for long enough to have an extended conversation.

Actually B&O has tons of things that I would love to own but there is always something.... It's like many of their products fail to make entirely convincing cases for themselves. I think things might be changing though...I sense there is an overhaul of the product portfolio coming our way.

BeoSound 5. Every 6 months or so I try to convince myself to buy one, but every time I decline to do so and I think this product is such a missed opportunity.

This makes me believe that B&O has abandoned serious sound systems. So now I am using computer audio as a source for my vintage Beomaster + current Beolab ALT systems. Very nice.

And I do not associate BeoPlay with B&O, but maybe I am getting old.

I did own one....for 3 months. To this day, I wonder "what was I thinking?" when I bought it. Took hours to install, lots of cables to hide, Beomaster crashed frequently and so on. Traded it in, took a small loss and never looked back. Didn't do anything compelling, took ages to locate a track (especially after you only need to type the first few letters on an iPad) and it smacks of something where B&O users *want* to love and convince themselves they really do love it (if they own one).

Mind you, it was still more stable than our current BeoCom 5s.

You mean the BeoCom 5 isn't stable? I am planning to get one. I like the speakerphone function. Is the phone itself heavy on your hands or relatively comfortable to hold for extended periods?
