Hello guys,

Considering changing to smoked oak on my beolab 50s. Anyone know what that would cost? Or if there is anyone who wants to change from smoked oak to oak? I could be interested in swapping.

Or maybe it could be possible to change the color if I let a craftsman look at it? Guess it could be painted?

Yes, and that is a lot. I am now changing TV so it will be a high cost already. Either change avant 55 to eclipse 55 (added cost for the wood already). Or 65”. However my wall is 148 cm and the eclipse 65 is 161cm so I would have to make the wall wider or hope nobody would run into it.

Alternative is getting a Harmony, the 65” is 144.9 cm wide which is perfect for my wall, but it is also an added cost and it might look too big maybe. I am not sure I like that the speakers portrude so much forward from the screen, but maybe I would like it anyway. With the rotating stand it could be a good contended. Although a high cost, and then 3600 euro is a big deal. (Which it still is for getting more wooden panels, I can buy a pretty decent mac for that).

Get the Mac! but wait for the new one next year... will be a game changer.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Haha yes actually I am waiting for it but there is an event of the first apple silicon Mac this week!

Anyway. I have been curious about wall mounting oak and a friend renovated his apartment and included that in the new decor and it’s stunning.

I can’t decide however if I should have it, and if so where but putting it behind the tv and having the tv with an aluminum front instead of oak might be cool. Also then keeping all the wood vertical as on the beolab 50.

Even found an idea of this at B&Os website.

What do you guys think? Would cost me about 600 euro only (140 euro per 240cm x 60) and the wall is 244 cm high (white part) and 148 cm wide. Made by a company in Denmark called wood up. Probably pretty similar to the one in this photo.

Hallo Michael,

If you are going to buy a new TV, it should be a good time to talk to your dealer about a trade in price on the panels for your Beolab 50. I can only imagine that they have some pretty good margins on the panels, and I guess they also would like your used ones.

About the TV choice, I am my self thinking about going from the 55" Eclipse to the 77" Harmony.

Yes the Harmony is more expensive, but the clever design makes the TV fill so much less in the room when turned off compared to a normal tv.

I tried a C7 65" before buying my Eclipse, and it was just to much black screen in the room, when I did not use it.

So I would recommend looking a bit longer on the Harmony 65" and if you want to save som money on it, you can go for a CX panel on Black Friday.

About the panels behind, it can look very nice, but IMO it would be best with the Eclipse, with the Harmony it can easily be to much.

Hi Michael,

Just make sure your eyes are comfortable with such a wall as a backdrop to the TV. Did this at the office, and I had to move so that my back was facing the wall: the vertical lines tend to move after I while giving me motion sickness. Weird, but still.

Hello Michael,

if I may suggest to go for the Harmony. I just moved from 65" to a 77" panel and it is really amazing how the Harmony hides the size in Audio mode of this gigantic panel. In my eyes the Eclipse looks more massive than the Harmony surprisingly.

Also you get a more flexible platform, even if LG is going to change the format of the panels I think it will be quite easy to mount what ever panel to the Harmony. (if that works from a software point of view we don't know...)

I have a set of samples from WoodUp at home, they have styles that match the smoked oak as well as the oak quite well. You may want to order the samples to find out.

My Harmony hangs on a dark grey wall a little but wider that the panel and the plan is to have the woodup panels left and right to the Harmony to have my BL5 stand out nicely.

I also second the idea to talk to your dealer about a trade in, so did I when I switched from the 65 to the 77 for different bracket and panels.

Thanks for your input. Well the Harmony is beautiful as well but I also do like the eclipse. The price difference between the Harmony and Eclipse in same size is not so much but quite a step from 55 to 65. Anyway. I do use the planetary stand a lot and the Harmony does not have it. I dont know the extra cost for the rotating stand but it can only rotate ever so much as it is close to the wall.

I measured yesterday how big my 55" screen is for my eyex when it is at the closest location, it is then much bigger than the wall, meaning wider than a 65" tv by a few inches even. At the stand position the eclipse has (8 cm less in diameter) the screen is almost exactly the same width as the wall it stands in front of. That means same there as the 65" would be four cm smaller.

Touch choices..

Good idea with the panels. Not sure if I should go with smoked oak anymore though. I do think it looks great but the current color matches my floors very well. Maybe that is more important than a darker hue in the room? As far as I can see the oak looks very good on the Eclipse also, not sure I have seen it with smoked oak. Which color do you have?

77" is too large for my current room but agreed its clever and good that the Harmony can so much easier be upgraded. I have also considered this but it seems still that the 55" eclipse can be pretty OK for me as it can swivel and therefore be more optimal in my room that is oblong. I can always later on replace the eclipse with a harmony if the time comes in the future - maybe.. or just wall mount the soundcenter and use a bigger monitor above it as Ive seen a few people do. But then I loose the effect and movement of course..

It is a pity there is no table stand for the eclipse model. it could have easily existed as a shorter version of the motorised floor stand - but also means it could possibly be remade into a lower stand later on right?

Hmm.. good idea. I did not think about that but the more I do I worry about it. There is some really nice examples where a backgrop like this is used and it looks so cool but at the same time it might be hard on the eye for a longer time. Maybe rather put shelves up and/or paint the wall in a calming color..

Here is a few examples I am considering:

Eclipse_Square.jpg (this last one is interesting as it has curtains. My TV stands in front of a wall with two passages next to it and if I had curtains I could close it off when watching a movie but then again it would maybe look weird when not in use.

@Michael

As for no table stand for the Eclipse.

Stbbracket makes an easel stand:

Thanks, thats a good idea but I want to keep the motorized feature. I wish it was just available with a shorter pole. Then the area below the TV could be better utilized. But now looking at some cool interior objects to place there, like a seletti monkey lamp and some art.

Interior design isnt always easy hehe :). The harmony would also be cool but I actually prefer the more subtle oak front on the eclipse. The blended aluminium and oak doesnt do it for me, well maybe I will get used to it :). Have to go to the store and sit a while.
