Beovision Avant with BeoLab 14

Hi All,

I'm the happy owner of a BeoLab 14 (5.1 surround) which is currently connected to a (Samsung) TV through a Harman/Kardon receiver. The TV has stopped working so I'm considering my options, where one would be to get a Beovision Avant 55.

If I understand correctly it should be possible to connect BeoLab 14 directly to the Avant, thereby removing the traditional surround receiver from the equation. Is that correct and if so would it be a single PowerLink Cable from the Avant to the BeoLab 14 subwoofer (with the subwoofer distributing the sound to the five speakers through speaker cables like in my current setup)?

Also, would the Avant speaker work as the centre speaker reducing BeoLab 14 to a 4+1 or is it possible to keep 5+1 through BeoLab 14?

Any help will be appreciated!

You must run the 14.4 (you don’t need the fifth speaker) like a normal 4.1 set of speakers to the sub - with 3 RJ45-Powerlink cables from the Avant.

See the User Guide for this.

And you must configure each speaker in the Sound Settings of the Avant including distances etc etc.

You also have the option of bas managing the built-in speakers of the Avant, which will act as the Center Speaker - best read the Technical Sound Guide for this.

And - correctly set up - you probably will notice that the set will sound better when connected to the Avant!

The BL14.4 is an underestimated multichannel set of speakers from B&O imo - I like it.

I remember hearing the BL14 with the Avant in the Melbourne showroom. I was actually blown away with how good movie sound effects were with it.

It’s quite good actually.

In the Avant, in the menu, a BL14 is one of the available speakers in the list so it goes together.

I will begin my search for a BeoVision Avant 55. Does anyone know if there are any known issues or problems with this model that I should watch out for when buying (a used) one?

The 1st Gen has some issues with burning video engines. Problem can be expensive to fix, but is quite easy to prevent by attaching a usb ventilator to the back.

2nd Gen doesn't have any hardware problems but is not a favourite around here due to the slow and unstable Android OS.

The 1st Gen has some issues with burning video engines. Problem can be expensive to fix, but is quite easy to prevent by attaching a usb ventilator to the back.

2nd Gen doesn't have any hardware problems but is not a favourite around here due to the slow and unstable Android OS.

I believe it is like a computer ventilator, behind the cover. Willie explained it in one of the podcasts on YouTube (but I don't remember which one!)
