I guess everyone has seen the release of the new(old) Beogram 4000c, the B&O refurbishment of the original Beogram 4000 in the 21st century.

Looking at the pictures it seems like they are using a new cartridge using the classic MMC connection. Does anyone know which cartridge this is?  And are we able to buy this separately?  I assume they need some spare stock for incidents.

I read on this forum that SMMC4 from SoundSmith is used for the 4000c turntable.

Apparently, B&O no longer has the machinery/tooling needed to produce these cartridges. That's why I imagine they outsourced it.

Didn’t Ortofon produce cartridges for B&O?

SMMC4 would be wrong form factor I guess, so SMMC20E seems more likely albeit quite cheap for an 11000€ Turntable.

This new cartridge is made by Ortofon it seems!

Curious, given that B&O gave the license to Sound Smith to make the replacements for originals?

Hmm, never thought of it that way but merging an OM10 case (or concorde) onto a mmc connector seems easier than replacing a cantiliver+stylus in a broken mmc. And parts are very cheap to get  Once you have done that you’re free to use whatever stylus you want out of the OM range.

Hi,

You're right not to bet! It is made by Soundsmith, the SMMC20CL.
