Hello.
I am going to buy a beosound product to use in a Link system.. Today i own a Encore, but i want to change this to a other product.
All of my music is stored on a NAS disk.. Is the right product for me Beosound 5?
What should i do?
Anyone??
Hard to give you an answer.
You tell us nothing about your personal prferences and wishes for your setup - how many Linkrooms if any at all? Or do do just want to combine/to link a NL-videoproduct with a ML-audioproducts?
Do you want to listen to cd's and radio/internetradio as well?
Do you listen to both video (and of cource looking too) and audio in the same room, or in seperate rooms?
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Ok, i can try to explaine in poor english.. I wish to hear music (almost everything is on an NAS disk), and mayby buy an beovision 10 or 11 in my livingroom.. My other link room will be kitchen ( not shure What to use here), and upstairs i have a beovision 7-32 and one beovision 6-26.
This is What i want to link together :) But should i Go for ML og NL?
Allright then.
You are not sure whether it will be a BV10 or a BV11 - this you must decide before doing anything.
Do you want Smart-tv functions on your tv - would the Apple-tv be enough for that/be ok for you?
Do you want to distribute any video from the mainroom to the linkrooms?
How much do you want to invest in the audio-thing? Is audio a preference to video?
Are other users involved - wife, children?
Audioquality of the files on NAS - lossless or not? Are you a PC-guy or a Mac-user?
Sorry for asking that much - but without knowing about these thing, I would not advice anything!!!
And your english is not that poor at all
Thank You for asking, i am new to the BO World ;)
I use an Appletv today, and i love it ;) It's mostly going to be audio that i am going to use, i am aware of the delay in NL system.. Hopefully they will come up with a solution!
Mainly it is going to be me and my wife as users, so as simple as possible ;)
The audioquality is more or less lossless.. And for the future it is all about lossless.. I am a Mac user :)
my dealer recommend me to buy an Beovision 10 and beosound 5, but i want to be 100% sure before i am going to invest..
Hi Normann,
just got home, and saw you post.
Will reply later - have to cook some dinner for the family
Dinnerparty with the family is always important :)
Hi again Normann,
sorry for not responding 'till now.
Your music is already on a NAS. I suppose - as you are a Mac-user - it is encoded in ALAC.
The BS/BM5 has its own internal harddrive, and it won't accept the ALAC-filer.
However It is quite easy to convert them into FLAC, but still you would need time for this task.
You could use an external server = your NAS with a good mediaserver ( Twonky or so) to feed the BS/BM5 - but does that make sense?
And you will have some 'bad' issues that way, that you would not have, if you use the internal HD of the BM.
Gaplessplay won't be avaible - and the BM is quicker, it runs more fluid with its own HD..
You want something, that integrates with your other gear - something that is ML based!
That is the PRO of the BS/BM5-solution.
Unfortunatly there is at the moment no pure NL based audio-solutiion!!!
Whether you choose a BV10 or a BV11 is another matter. Which one would you prefer?
If you choose the BV11, you will need the converter - but you know that already.
The BV10 will certainly come cheaper than the BV11 and the converter - if that matters.
Since you already are using an AppleTV, you could go further down that route.
If you buy an 'older' (cheap) Beomaster - anyone with ML- and a A-AUX- or A-TAPE-connection will do - you could hook that up to your existing MasterLink. You could then connect a Playmaker (for best sound-quality) or even the AirPortExpress to it, and have access to your music in every room via AirPlay/Mac/iPad....
If you want to be flexible (if your wife wants to listen to something else on the BV6-26...) you would just have to buy another AppleTV or that, and the 7-32....
The Playmaker connected to an AudioMaster and again to ML would give you exellent soundquality - and the ease of playing your files via AirPlay and a good app (ask more, if you need to know).
However if you like the BS-BM5 - and don't mind doing the job of converting and migrating your files to the drive of the BM - it would be a superb solution.
Best buy a Beo6 for navigating!
But it would not be as flexible as the other solution.
Note: a combination of both might also be possible !!!

Your question was relatively short - my answer very long.
But I wanted you to look into different solutions based on you present setup and your wishes.
P.S. I hope someone else could make some comments on this - maybe write about his/her own experiences with a similar setup.
Hi. Just a quick question, i own today a Encore and stream my music from the NAS.. When it comes to fileformat on the music, most of my music is playable on the Encore. So if i move my libary over to the beosound/beomaster this will work won't it?
Pretty much the same.
You wrote about future-ripping to losles - and I told you to use FLAC (or WMA-losless).
If you rip with iTunes (as a Mac-user often do) to ALAC, you would have to convert afterwards.
Please do not forget to return - to tell us which decision you wil make
Oksy. Thank you.. As of today nothing is linked together, so i have to do the hole ML job around the house also..
i am starting to feel the Bs5/Bm is the right product for me to start with.. And link everything from this and the future beovision..
Simbohm:After an incredibly long debate with B&O, I have gone with the Beomaster 5, Masterlink gateway (connection to Lutron), some new speakers 12-2's with an 11 - there is also a playmaker in the mix Soni can stream music.
Hi Simbohm,
what you describe, seems a quite messy setup. i hope your B&O-dealer knows what he is doing.
Do you have the BM5 without the Beosound5?
If without, how is the BM5 connected to the BV11?
Normally I would say that it is impossible to run one set of speakers from 2 different masters at the same time - at least without a swich of some kind. Could you tell more about how it is connected???
When you rip to any losless format, you can always create (burn) a CD-A afterwards without any losses.
You want to rerip your cd-collection? If you have the BS5 as well, I would recommend to buy the ripdrive - it makes things much easier.
You can connect a V1 to the line-in of a A9. You need a special cable: RJ45-PowerLink to RCA. You can get that from your dealer - he should know that!
Hi.
What formats is it possible to rip the cd collection in with the ripdrive?
@Normann WMA Losless and MP3 up to 320 - as you see no FLAC
@Simbohm probably they are using a PowerLink-switch from Bosscom or Almando
I can't imagine any other solution - would be nice if you tell us about it after the installation..
The switch-solution is something that I (without any financial interests) have promoted ever since the BV11 came out.
Note: the Media(audio)functions of the BV11 can not be used in other rooms unless you involve the NL/ML-converter. (with one exeption coming in spring: you have a V1 or another BV11 directly connected via NL).
Then it will be no cdrip for me.. Better to do this on the computer and then transfer it over to the BM5.
